Authorities on the Mind - Scientology's War on Psychiatry
As the battle against Scientology continues to wage on, more and more of its insanities are coming to light. A leaked video recently surfaced on Youtube from a large scientology conference in which the current head of the cult, David Miscavige, is shown outlining his strategies for the "global obliteration of Psychiatry". It also details how they are trying to disseminate a book of Scientology propaganda entitled "The Way to Happiness" boasting how the book has replaced all of the Gideon Bibles in one posh Colorado Hotel. Disturbingly, David Miscavige reveals the extent of Scientology's corporate tie-ins, claiming that the Coca-Cola corporation, 7-Eleven, and Dell Computers have been instrumental in helping distribute Cult literature. Using apocalyptic terminology and violent image, David Miscavige shows in detail how the Cult of Scientology has waged a covert war to sway public opinion on the field of psychiatry. For one, Scientology is big business and any competition to their claim of being the "Authorities on the Mind" is a financial threat to their Empire. Another reason has to do with their twisted Sci-Fi belief system. To them, Psychiatrists are part of a conspiracy against the human race that spans billions of years. Aren't those Scientologists a hoot? How can you base a religion on absurdities? However, if a Scientologist was to cut-and-paste large tracts of crazy Scientology drivel on The Californian's blogs two or three times a day for eleven straight months, I hope he's shown the utmost tolerance. Nobody should dare question anything he posts, and God forbid, have any fun at his expense. posted by

This is also a problem in many other churches, although the scientologists go much further in trying to kill psychiatry. Many churches are suspicious about psychology and psychiatry. And there are bad psychologists and psychiatrists out there. However, the psychological and psychiatric dimensions of a person are real, and to deny this, and to treat human beings as one-dimensional, can contribute to the development of severe psychological and psychiatric problems. posted by

Scientology is one of the most difficult cults to get out of your head, even after you leave. . Scientology's battle with psychiatry has parallels with fundamentalists' battles with evolution...up to and including front groups. posted by

Being a recoveing fundamentalist, and a believer in both creation, and, to some extent, evolution (but not Darwin's version), I would say it has parallels with fundamentalists battle with psychiatry.

Judging by the video, Scientology is Hell-bent on world domination using "religious-freedom" as a method to avoid legislative and legal penalty. It's a damned shame this "big-Business" enjoys tax-exempt status.
