great food and Restaurants in Bakersfield

who remembers Maison Jausaud's restaurant on union ave?  What wonderful food and the owners Martin and Baby were great people.  I don't live in Bakersfield any longer but I sure do miss it and miss these folks.  And I wonder if Sam's Pizza Boat is still around?  The Casa Royale used to be a great place for food.  Who remembers the Stockdale Inn on Stockdale Hiway. I think at the time they served the same food and it was

designed just like the Tam o Shanter.  I first arrived in Bakersfield In the late 60's and immediately found Bill Lees.  I can say that I go to Bakersfield twice a year and always go to Bill Lees.  I am happy to say that the food has not changed.  My favorite dishes are Chicken Chow mein and Pineapple Chicken Sticks

I remember Maisons ! and MANY others ... the late 70's ~ early 90's were THE best times in BFL for food, and nightlife. (IMO)

Next time you're in town, you MUST go to the old Cask N Cleaver building, its now called Camino Real, and it's a 'hidden secret' !  Our favorite restaurant now, and LOCALLY owned ! Not a chain.

there was a little holein the wall in the strip mall on the corner of verdugo and rosedale called "papa riccios".  they had the best pizza in town.  they cooked in a one of a kind oven that the owner told me was designed and built in Italy...no specifically for pizza, but it did the trick.  their green and red pesto sauce was great.....deep dish pizza at its finest

alas, the owner decided to open the now defunct "speakeasy" on brimhall and coffee road.

RIP papa riccios...your pizza HAS BEEN MISSED

I worked banquets at Maisons back in the 90's Unfortunately I didn't get to eat..LOL.   Back in it's heyday it was way out of my budget.

Goldilox, is it all Mexican food?  I need to try the place and you are so right about it being hidden.  I completely forgot it was there.

You can see the menu on line on their web site, they have an AMAZING selection of different types of foods there (Camino Real)  personally ~ i eat the mexican food there, they have a Trio Fajitas for Two Meal that is to die-for!

By the way what was the name of the restaurant that was in an actual train near the intersection of California and Oak st.??????

Thanks for keeping in touch.

The old Cask and Cleaver (now th eMexican Rest.) is on Truxtun /Extension right where the 99 freeway passes over.  Very secluded looking and unobtrusive building.
