Really infowar? Perhaps the officer should have skipped the taser and just given this crotchety old cuss a good smack atop his head with a hickory oak baton.

So two incidents with police officers where the guy is being noncompliant, and he is the victim somehow? Tell me, at what age does a person no longer have to follow the same laws as everyone else? If the man is resisting, should the officers have just let him go because of his age? Because obviously you think they do not have the right to detain him at all. posted by

Whats 'hang to hand combat'?? seriously...how fast can an 81 yr old man run? how many times can he attempt to hit you before his arthritis kicks in? .....That much force wasn't needed! posted by

My bad- hand to hand combat. They could have thrown him to the ground and performed a drill 1 and 2 on him if they wanted to and permanently hurt the guy. What are they to do? As a matter of principle, I don't want anyone hitting me, regardless of age. Combabtitives training doesn't discriminate. The taser is about one of the few techniques those Security Force personnel are taught to use as "non-lethal". posted by

This man was resisting arrest. It is irrelevant that he was 81 years old. An 81 year old could just as easily pull a handgun from his waist band and open fire on the officers as could a 61 year old or a 21 year old. Recent shootings by real old guys confirm this danger. This guy was fleeing the scene. There must have been a reason he refused to obey the law and sign the citation. posted by

I read this earlier this week in the Anchorage paper. Eielson was my first duty assignment when I joined the Air Force. I was stationed there for two years and what I can't figure out is why the Air Force patrols the Richardson Highway. That highway is not on military property as far as I know. It's the road that goes from Fairbanks, past Eielson, then for hundreds of miles south to Anchorage. Since when did the military take responsibility for the Alaska Highway Patrol? The base is about 35 miles south of Fairbanks. I can't imagine someone involved in such a no-brainer situation not being compliant. He's certainly not exempt from the requirement to follow the orders of a peace officer, which is the state-side duty of Air Force security personnel. It's too bad this guy is a dork. posted by

The military is violating posse comitatus when they patrol U.S. Highways & engage the citizens. To bad the cowardly American public doesn't hold them accountable. It's all about mindless worship of the government nowadays.

The Richardson Highway was built by the US Army. I think DOD still has controll over that road since it was originally built and maintained to link bases that are now non-existent. The road can be justified as having military strategic value (as well as federal/military control) to avoid violation of Posse Comitatus. posted by
