Be Careful What You Say About the Government

If you still think it's no big deal that Bush's Congress gifted  him warrantless spying power, then here's some newly released history about our slippery slide into fascism. After Martin Luther King Jr. was shot, the FBI spied on Coretta Scott King, read her private mail, recorded her phone calls, and tailed her wherever she went, all that without a warrant. Remember, this was illegal. Mrs. King never had committed a crime. So, why did it happen? Dick Nixon and his boys were afraid Mrs. King would stir up the civil rights movement against the Vietnam War. When Nixon was caught red-handed, an indignant Congress passed an act in  1977 requiring  the government to obtain a warrant before spying on its citizens. Fast forward: You already know that GW Bush started spying on American citizens in violation of that law, and he, like Nixon, was caught. Bush then  instructed his majority in Congress to amend the law to allow certain kinds of electronic spying on citizens, note, without warrant or review. In this case, a Pontiff President and his cronies never flinched when they subtracted from our civil rights. Be careful what you say about the government.

I love that today's "conservatives" are trusting President Clinton not to misuse the powers Dubya is graciously passing on to her.

All you have to do to prevent wiretaping is wrap your phone with aluminium foil.

Only poke two holes in both the talking end and hearing end.. TWO HOLES ONLY.  Any more and the jamming capacity of the foil will be affected..

Do that simple trick and the FBI won't know about the pimple you popped on your ass last night and that your hemmeroids have flared up again..

Good job! An excellent, lowcost way to protecting yourself from government harrassment! Here are two more:  Keep those calls limited to bodily functions. Never bring up politics. Same as Thanksgiving.

I guess it was presumed JB already has the tinfoil hat and underwear. Yes, wrapping the phone is an extra degree of insurance against govt intrusion.

JB, you remind me of Yasserian in Catch-22 in that riggin'. Are you really "safe" to fly?

Or does the mere fact you want to fly in and of itself, mean you are too unbalanced to fly?

Don't worry , you guys can just push me to the front of the line when they come for all of us. ;-P Those that study history do not find this quite as far fetched as some, granted we may not be of interest to the government but the abuse of power is a scary thing.
