Bad economy trashes...trash.
Kern County Solid Waste guru told supervisors Tuesday that the bad economy could cost Kern County's trash department $61 million over the next ten years. Over all dumpage in Kern is down 11 percent due to the economic downturn, and the amount of trash that generates gate fees at the county landfills is down 34 percent. Apparently, when people are poor, they don't make as much trash. Is that a good thing or a bad thing? 2 comments from 2 users

I was helping my step-daughter move some household waste from a condo she's moving into. It included a large countertop, a toilet, some scrap wood and carpet padding. All of which I was charged for -- but only about $11. My point is I think it's counterproductive to charge for people bringing trash to the dump. Makes them want to dump it in illegal places.

It may just mean they are finding other places to dump their goods..................vacant lots, vacant properties etc
