Being Single in Bakersfield???

Ok, so I am curious what the single people of Bakersfield think of the dating scene here. Married people can jump in, too, if you have experience as a single person in Bako or just have some insight.

So, here are my questions: What do you think of the dating scene here? If you are a transplant (basically came from somewhere else and moved here), do you think it is harder to date here? What are the pros of dating here and what are the cons? Also, getting away from the Bakersfield part of it, do you think meeting people to date has changed dramatically over the years, whether by means or the way you approach someone?

These are really just curiosity questions based on things I have heard and from living here for 4 years.  I wanted to see what other people thought about it.

Hmmmmmm as far as dating here versus other places, I cant say because I haven't ever really "dated" outside the area. But dating now versus years ago, the Internet has changed it drastically. I think it all started back with AOL having profiles and chat rooms, where you could search for people near you matching several categories. Then from there to now where you have such a huge base of social networking sites such as the infamous myspace, there is really no need to go out looking for someone to date. You can search pretty much a majority of the population and by looking at websites or profiles created by them you can see if your attracted to them and also if you have the same interest or views.   The other day I was talking to my little brother about him going out to the market place to meet girls, and I told him to make sure he always has a pen to get their numbers, like I used too. Well I was quickly corrected with " why, I can just put their number in my phone".  I'm not even 30 yet, and it made me feel old and realize how much times have changed.

Sincal,

You are right about the whole internet thing. Toby and I were talking about that the other day. I have had some interesting experiences with people on the internet that I have met but that is a whole other story..lol. That is a great story about your brother, too, I just turned 30 and I get those moments all the time.....haha.

When it comes to dating in Bakersfield, I can say that I think it is very different than LA. The biggest difference is that I could date someone down there and once we break up never see them again. Here you see them all the time , their family and friends and it seems everyone they know....lol. It amazes me how big this town is that it can be a "small town" or at least seem like one. It is also different being a transplant because alot of people here grew up together and they kinda have their own "clique" going. There definitely isn't as much going on here either, that is for sure, but maybe it isn't fair to compare here to LA.....lol.

You have a "clique" here too LoL.  Since you and Toby's help and involvement in the past month, your part of our clique hehehe.     And Yes, you will always run into an ex around this town. And it never fails, it will be at the wrong time or place with your new significant other.       A Place where you can break up with someone and never see them again................... it really does exist?

LOL......that is nice to know I am part of a "clique" now, too! You guys are really nice and have been awesome to Toby, which is hard to find anywhere.....I am happy to be part of your clique...=).

Yes, those places do exist.....lol.....that is funny, you think that is weird and I think running into them all the time is weird. You can tell I am not from here....haha.
