Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery coming to town
Location: 2900 Calloway Drive, Bakersfield, CA

A new bar is slated for northwest Bakersfield.

It's called the Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery.

A fellow editor here was looking for some info on the Kern County Scottish Society’s 13th annual Gathering and Games at Stramler Park coming up in Bakersfield this weekend and stumbled on the eatery's Web site. No kidding. He noticed Bakersfield was named in a list of cities set to get one of the bars.

We checked it out. Here's what reporter Courtenay Edelhart reports after talking to one of the guys who is involved:

"'I just thought it would be a fun sports bar for the community to enjoy,” said Jeremy Helper, 27, who is one of three private investors planning to open the Tempe, Ariz.-based chain’s 11th store in July.

It’s to be located at the Northwest Promenade at 2900 Calloway Drive.

Read Courtenay's full report.

Will you be going?

Garbage. Pure garbage. Same food as the other sports bar chains. Boring. Stupid. Show some cleavage?

You're just mad because they won't let your kind in there...

Christine, this is the second blog you have posted this evening where you have asked "are you going?" My question to you is, are YOU going? Your posts have become so predictable that they are getting very boring, in my opinion.

Just wondering: Between the earlier post about Hooters and this plug, do flat-chested and chubby or skinny chicks have a chance, or is hiring policy sex kittens and centerfold wannabees only?

Which clan does the plaid pattern represent?

I thought a kilt was masculine attire. How does the Scottish Society feel about their culture being taken out of context and sexualized?

Is there going to be a William Wallace look alike contest or renactment?

What does this chain do differently than Hooters?

why do you people have to  turn everything into something negative. jesus some of you are anonying.  this bar is awesome, i lived like 3 blocks away from one in  vegas, decent prices, good atmosphere and hot chicks (well in vegas there were) and actually catpaw, the one in vegas had chicks of all shapes. not too bg  but there was a pretty hot well fed chick that worked there. hopefully the idiots don't ruin this one for us like  they did rockin rodeo. i miss that place!

because everything in thier life IS negative, and they have a computer and don`t have to look someone in the eye and back up thier denialist thoughts in person...sad really, but they are becoming a dying breed slowly

I've been a fan of the Tilted Kilt since I first visited it in Las Vegas.  The food is excellent.  A wide variety of good beers is offered.  I'm glad to see it coming.

I agree with McGowan in hoping that some of our local residents do not ruin it.  Decent citizens unite - go to the Kilt!

Catpaw, I saw the pic and thought it was a Catholic school theme.  Gotta say two Hail Mary's to get in and another for each beer you drink.

I can't say I'm pleased about the location.  It's too close to where my grandchildren worship.  I'm afraid the "under the influence" traffic could be a problem.

The only idiots that ruined Rockin' Rodeo was its management. If this "awesome" Hooters-type franchise gets ruined it won't be be by local residents.

If they want to be successful they better hire attractive wait staff.  It is in all our make up to like attractive places and people.  You  won't have to worry about gang fights.  Irish pub, drinking, hot women. Yep, there may be fisticuffs  They should pass out gloves or shillelaghs at the door.

You just now noticed. Harumph. Some of us knew about it and informed the Bakoblog community about this back in December. Harumph.

dg, what type of place do your grandchildren worship at that they need to be concerned with people leaving a bar at midnight or 2am? You don't think there's not already people driving under the influence all around the Northwest Promenade?

posted by TomW on Apr 3, 2008 at 11:35 AM

Glad you liked that, Chico.  I had a bit about the bouncer wielding a ruler, but decided to keep it short and sweet.

Just shows the moral decay of Bakersfield,

Moral decay? Yes, it's a shame that someone would send their grandchildren to church in these enlightened times.

They had better accept full-figured applicants if they plan to stay open in Bakersfield.

posted by OldBlue56 on Apr 3, 2008 at 03:44 PM

billyjay, why don't you grab a sign and go picket in front of one of the local nudie clubs? That can be your way of fighting the moral decay in Bakersfield.

And I see you are new here today. What was your blogger name yesterday? I think I have an idea.

leave it to half the people on this site to  ruin something good. dg- there are like 7 bars within a 5 mile raduis of the NW promenade, so this is nothing new. and there is no moral decay in having to look good to have a job and people wanting to go be around attractive people. and actually, the reason rockin rodeo got closed down is because there were too many gang related scuffles and eventually someone died, sad, but it was the residents  who ruined it, managment couldn't turn someone away who they had no reason to believe would shoot or stab someone outside the venue.  anyways, thanks to all the lames on this blog who ruined my excitement of having a new place to hang out  when i get my one night out a month!  on the bright side, i won tickets to an awesome concert for writing a cool short story about my spring break. and it was all about spending time with my son!  <3bakotopia
