Yum ... Uno Chicago Grill on way

We've learned that Uno Chicago Grill has plans for Bakersfield.

When and exactly where aren't known yet, but a father-and-son team have purchased the rights to open five eateries in Central Cal.

I use to work right by UNO's in Chicago downtown in the 80's.....yummmmm, something about the crust, just a touch of cornmeal, that makes it oh so special.  I'll be pleased to see this happen.

Hooray. Yet another chain eatery has come to Bakersfield to further water down what passes for resaurants in this city. Thanks, but no thanks.

Uno's is pretty good and should do well. I think the closest one is probably in San Diego. There might be some still in the Bay area. Good food...excellent pizza. Sort of a BJ's without the brewpub, decor and food wise. Menu isn't quite as extensive as BJ', but close. I've had mostly very good experiences at Uno's in ....lessee...seven states. Means we're growing.

And don't knock the chain restaurants so much, pal. The primary reason chains do well here is because most of the local restaurants are a joke. They're always seriously underfunded and the decor, the ambience, is nothing. The chains/franchises require a huge amount of capital and train everybody to their standards, which, sad to say, are usually a lot higher than the the vast majority of the mom-and-pop locals.

Holy cow, how many Mexican food joints do we need? And many of them are pretty scummy places to dine...the Jake's, the Coconut Joe's, the Akira's, the Woolgrowers', the Luigi's, the Frugratti's, are the exception, locally, in terms food quality, value and ambience.

I'm not going to pick on the many local ones that shouldn't even be open. Some of them...whoo. I wouldn't let my dog eat in them. And there are some chains (Denny's, Del Taco, Chuy's) that I can't tolerate, won't go into, been a few times and never again.
