Wal-Marts seek OK to sell beer, wine
Reporter Jenny Shearer found out that Bakersfield Wal-Marts are seeking liquor licenses from the state Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. No word yet on what kind of beer or wine would be sold if Wal-Mart gets the OK. Read the full story here. 6 comments from 4 users

OK Christine..in deference to your comment, I used the link and now I'm really chuckling at all the outrage. They want to sell wine and beer (as mentioned above) ...not distilled alcohol. And people are outraged over something you can buy at concerts, rodeos, and the fair. Too funny..... :-) Save your outrage when they want to put a honkey tonk or a strip bar in your neighborhood. posted by

Christine sorry for not knowing it was Rosedale. I rarely click on the article as long as the bloggers spill the beans for me. I worked at WM and knew the policy. ET...Where are your eyes fella? The parking lot around Rosedale WM is NOT trashy, bus stop or no. Those grocery stores bring in ALL types of people. Longs is low priced on sales and regularly runs ads for sales on liquor. Smart and Final sells booze and is in the middle of a ghetto on GS Hwy. Selling alcohol at WM is no different than selling it at any other store. It was Mr. Walton who didn't approve of liquor sales in his stores and he no longer has a say so. However, they got their tailfeathers singed with the gun issue...not enuff employees who followed the paper trail..so I hope they train better for alcohol sales. Clerks at grocery stores ring it up all the time..so it shouldn't be a problem for WM cashiers. posted by

Hi Nancyll, Wal-Mart is seeking the OK to sell beer and win at the store or Rosedale Highway and the one in the northeast by East Hills Mall. (Sometimes we make you click on the story link to get more details!) You are right — Wal-Mart has sold alcohol at Supercenters since 1988, spokesman Aaron Rios toldJenny. They've sold alcohol in other cities for years, the spokesman said. — Christine Peterson posted by

Damn those evil Wal-Mart stores. Maybe next they'll want to sell heroin at lower prices so the junkies can get a fix without clobbering an old woman over the head for her Social Security check. Before we allow these stores of Satan to sell beer we should demand an environmental impact report. posted by

Has anyone stopped shopping at Albertsons or Vons? Have you stood in line in those stores with people who were buying beer and liquor? Is the trash any worse in their lots. Another question is...is there an address of the request for a liquor license? Previously, only Super Centers carried alcohol. posted by

Oh boy this is just what Kern County needs! New locations for drunk drives to start from. Maybe next we can get Walgreen's, Rite-aid and Longs to sell beer and wine from their drive-up pharmacy windows. This should really improve the quality of the trash in the Wal-Mart parking lots. Now we can enjoy empty bottles, empty cans, and empty cardboard beer boxes along with the dirty diapers that seem to be a staple of the Wal-Mart experience. I used to like Wal-Mart and I used to admire the Walton Famity for their low-key attitude toward's their mega richness but I just don't like shopping there any more.
