DG..right. Good news doesn't make good press. What a shame that the guys who really are humanitarians get buried under the agenda of politics.
I don't know what happened to this post but I'll try to fix it tomorrow. Sorry bout that. The original picture is the same as the second one. I just got it messed up somehow. Maybe the powers that be can help fix it? posted by

Because it would go against every lie that the liberal media wants to spread.

A. There are no liberal media. B. Fox News isn't showing the "good news" either. I stopped by Fox News yesterday and they were delivering the same bad news from Iraq as all of the other networks. Bad news and bloody news gets ratings, grabs viewers, and sells papers. People have a seemingly innate morbid curiosity. It's the nature of the beast. posted by

Tom, you are so very right. Stuff like that does happen all the time. That's the point. But when the exception happens (torture etc) you can bet it's front page news. Anglo and H4F are right..it ain't news unless it bleeds, shames, degrades, insults, scares, enrages, or sensationalizes. And THAT my friends is the real shame. Eh...who wants to read the good stuff when we can read the bad stuff and feel so much better about our own lives? Personally? I think that picture is awesome! posted by

Maybe the interrogation technique are providing valuable info Tom so that would make it Good News and therefore not very interesting. You know, if our guys received info that saved 20-30 troops or civilians that is certainly nothing suited for the media.

I really feel that 99% of our American soldiers are just like that guy. They are everday people with families, children of their own. They have no desire to harm other people. I am sure they take "collatreal damage" very seriously and do their best to minimize it. But we never hear about those guys. We only see the freaking psychos who seem to have no regard for human life, much like the extremist we are at war against. I have to believe in my heart of hearts that the average American soldier is a good decent hum,an being who wants very much to do the right thing. posted by

Dusty, I DO thank the president for this war. I thank him for trying to do what's right instead of what's politically correct. No where did you see me say they should NOT cover the grim realities of war, what you DID hear me say is that I'd like a little acknowedgement of the good the soldiers do instead of just the "torture" stories. What the article DID say is why are pictures like this not shown as well as the bad ones?
I didn't post that picture to get into another Bush bashing fest. You've about beat that horse to death. I posted it to try to bring attention and gratitude for the men who are doing their best under the worst circumstances...especially when people back home try to undermine everything they're fighting for.
You and I are poles apart on what makes this country good and strong and we will never agree. Try, just for once, to see what someone else is trying to say and not turn everything you read from the right into an opportunity to tear down our country by tearing down it's administration. Try, for once, to thank soldiers like that for being a buffer between you and a world you can't even imagine.
If I seem a little cranky I guess I am. I was trying to show a soldier with compassion and you couldn't resist taking his thunder and turning it on Bush. GOOD GRIEF !!!! Hating Bush is NOT the only thing you should be able to talk about where this war is concerned. Maybe you and your party should focus on finding someone fit to run for office in two years instead of focusing on the current one.

Nancy, we've got several qualified candidates for '08. I'd even back Hillary if she were the winner in the primaries--although she's not even my fourth choice. And what's good about this country cannot be torn down by criticizing our leaders. In fact, what's good about our country is epitomized in the act of criticizing our leaders. . I am grateful that there are men and women who went where they were told, who did not just what was asked of them but--as in the picture you posted--went way above just doing their duty. The pity and the same is that what they are doing in the long run will be overshadowed by the fact that we should never have gone in there in the first place, and lost the war once we got there. Bush had the opportunity to go down in history as a great President. Events like 9/11, Pearl Harbor, Fort Sumter, do that. He just didn't have it in him. The Greeks would have nodded in recognition at the man whose "tragic flaw" stole his fame. posted by

Your assessment of me couldn't be farther from the truth. I am NOT a Democrat. I am registered as decline to state. I hold allegience to no party. I must of struck a nerve since you spent the better part of an evening puttin up a response to my comment. Your President still controls our foreign policy. He controls the troops. The Democratic party has as much right to affect change in our policies towards Iraq as your President. You don't like that? Its a reality you better get used to. As for turning everything the right prints..you should try to do the same..its a two way street Nancy.
