Meth making teacher?

I am confused after seeing a TBC headline. (But what else is new). I just read a bold printed headline on here from the BreakingNewsTeam, written by Steven Mayer, that the teacher from Shafter H.S. is accused of "making" methamphetamine. But then the article describes how he ordered chemicals to make meth, but no actual meth was found. So my confusion is, did he actually make meth, or not?

It seems, for some reason, that the BreakingNewsTeam just cannot get the accurate facts out to the public.

Why are you so bitter, anyway?

OldBlue

I've been wondering the same thing.  Is this case going to be thrown out of court since they didn't find one smidgeon of meth?

Got the same story from local tv news. Not clear just what this teacher is guilty of. Could it be the original sources are confused and not the messengers?

Robin, OB is just bird dogging the local media to  "get it right"!

In his former profession he probably got a little tired of being  "quoted" saying one thing -- then seeing it in print and it is unrecognizable!  (poetic license is not a license to be a poet)......

Remember the Crack Pipe that became a meth pipe that became a drug pipe?

Words, sentences, phrases -- mean very specific things...... If not accurately replicated in the media, it can be very embarrassing -- even irritating.

Ever had it happen to you?

The problem with the media, especially the print media, is that many journalists and reporters don't understand what power they wield -- and subsequently what damage they can do -- by the words that they write.  They think they are "reporting," but when they don't think about their choice of words, what they say can be misleading, inaccurate, and even harmful.  What's very unfortunate is that the people who are harmed by these words, generally don't have the same wide-reaching public platform in which to air corrections or clarifications.  Any corrections or clarifications issued by the media are minimized, at best, but by that time the "horse is already out of the barn."

That also goes for adding gratuitous references in articles that have little or nothing to do with the subject of the story.

Apparently, he ordered chemicals that could be (could be)  used to make meth but no meth was found nor any evidence that any had been made. The prosecutor is attempting to make the ridiculous claim that the chemicals could only be used to make meth and nothing else. Sounds like another one of those witch hunts our prosecutors office is so famous for.

If the DA office says he's a witch, then obviously he's guilty. Burn the SOB!

I thought they found remnants on some school lab equipment and some suspicious things at his residence?

Don't quote me on that.

posted by robinislost on May 21, 2008 at 10:21 AM

Witbee, I heard the same thing, and I would have mentioned it if you hadn't. The way I remember it, one of the local newstations had gone to his house to see for themselves what the cops were doing, and I think they probably interviewed his family (wife, and maybe the guy himself). They had found suspicious things in his home and on his school e-mail address about making meth and whatnot.

Don't quote me on that, either, because this is all coming from memory, not sources.

But if OldBlue has that excuse for being bitter about the media, WHAT is his excuse for being bitter about everything else and constantly teasing anyone who makes a spelling and/or grammatical error? I don't see a reason for that.

I don't think they found anything on the school equip (if I remember correct). They did find meth recipes and sudafed at his home.  He claims the red phosphorus was to make matches. They also said they didn't find cash or other ingredients used to make meth.  I wonder if he was drug tested? Probably was though.

You know what guys, finding suspicious stuff in your house does not mean you're guilty of manufacturing meth.

My husband never throws anything away and buys all kinds of useless crap at garage sales.  I have no doubt that someone could produce a nuclear device out of the junk in our garage, if they wanted too.

Does that make my husband a terrorist.  No.  It just makes him a pack rat.

Did he have the 'glassware' at his home to cook this crap? Was the chemicals at his home?---Too many questions that hasn't be addressed in the news.....and as we all know, when you cook this poison---EVERYONE will know it...the smell is a big give-away...these people better have all their ducks in a row...I would move for a change of venue and get this case tried out of Kern County

Sigh.

LOSRP. Heh...I'm not a loser. Am I? Oh well.

I'm not bitter robin, I just don't like stupid people. And the amount of education one has sometimes has no influence on them not being stupid.

If the teacher from Shafter High School was making Meth, maybe he was making it somewhere else and, therefore, that would be the reason police found nothing.  Either that or he had it well hidden.  I don't know; I am just guessing.

Or maybe he never got that far to actually make it before he got busted. Which would explain why he is only charged with an attempted crime of manufacturing.
