Special delivery: Donations for pets
The only things we lacked were confetti and those giant checks that take three people to hold up. But the TBC Gives team traveled around town today in a van with our very own paparazzi to hand deliver the more than $14,000 donated by the community for our Tails of Bakersfield fundraiser. 6 comments from 6 users

It's wonderful to hear how the various facilities will be using the donations. I'm glad the folks in Bakersfield came through during this program and look forward to the next community endeavor. posted by

I think thanks should also go to The Bakersfield Californian, who stepped up and used their daily circulation for this cause. A newspaper hardly gets "thanks" but is more typically the target of angry emails and talk show hosts. I, for one, THANK the Californian for doing this good deed. Without their efforts to facilitate "Tails of Bakersfield," these huge monetary donations could not have happened. Bravo! (Incidentally, the dog in the photo with me was adopted from the SPCA, and she's just about the best dog that's ever lived!) posted by

Way to go Bakersfield! By the way, the veterinarian in the SPCA photo is the SPCA board president Dr. Rose Rakow of Steirn Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Rakow is a generous woman that has directed and worked all of the low cost spay/neuter clinics at the SPCA. Dr. Rakow is a great volunteer and is the backbone of the low cost spay/neuter efforts in Bakersfield. Kudos also go out to all of the other volunteer Veterinarians, Vet techs and individuals that make those low cost clinics available to the public. Keep up the good work Bakersfield! Keep up the good work Bakersfield Californian - good news does sell papers!
