Chad Vegas: Religious Rightwing HYPOCRITE
Vegas summed up the feelings of other conservatives in a June 1 e-mail to Californian Assistant Managing Editor Lois Henry, following a column on Barnett’s action. “Now, the fascist agenda of liberals becomes clear,” he wrote. “Give up your first amendments rights or lose your job!” ----- Dear County Supervisor, I am writing to make you aware of my ardent support for Ann Barnett. Please support her. Further, please know that I will work vigorously to remove from office any supervisor that does not support her in this difficult time. There is no more important political issue to the evangelical church. As we face one of the most important constitutional issues in the history of this great Republic, I want to make it clear that nothing short of complete opposition to homosexual marriage will be tolerated! As you consider your options, I remind you of the Apostle Peter in Acts 4 who asked, “should we obey man or God?” The choice is clear! Please don’t hide behind your oath on an issue this important. Your oath was to uphold the Constitution, not to uphold every stupid law or judicial decision that comes around. At times, civil disobedience is the only way to keep your oath. Thanks, Chad Vegas

I pay taxes and I WANT GAY MARRIAGES PERFORMED IN A COUNTY BUILDING THAT MY TAXES HELPED PAY FOR. I WANT GAY MARRIAGES PERFORMED BY A PUBLIC SERVANT WHO IS REIMBURSED FOR HER 8 HOURS A DAY BY TAXES THAT I PAY. The prevailing law in California guarantees that Gays will be given the same rights that non gays have enjoyed since California's constitution was ratified. If an elected official feels that they can't uphold that constituion they should resign and use the private sector to further their agenda. posted by

God hates hypocrites and those who support them. Job 13:16 He also shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him. Isaiah 32:6 For the vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.

From you posts in this and other blogs, sioux, you're not worth discussing any issue with. You're wholly unqualified. Funny how you left out all the other definitions of hypocrite. You must be using an abridged dictionary. You're right Nancy. I removed the remark.
but marraige is sacred If marriage is so sacred, why do conservative Christians have the highest rates of divorce? http://www.religioustoleran... And only allowing civil unions is an attack on gay Americans. It treats them as second class citizens.

Mr.Vegas has a right to his opinions, wrong as they are,the same as you or I. He can rabble rouse to his hearts content,as can we all. However we are above all else a nation of laws~ the law is clear in this case. Civil marriages are as sacred as the two people involved wish them to be,as are Church marriages. Where we get into trouble is confusing civil and church.....which church BTW?,which God,god or goddess, which belief?? That's were civil marriages come in and ends all of our hair splitting. This was a service ,long held in our county, that we should reinstate and make profitable. TSM~ you were so right,"The Devils Miner" was an awesome documentary~ perhaps a wedding with Tio would be appropriate! lol

Logic is never a strong point among ideologues. Ann Barnett is still contending that her decision was on financial, space and security grounds, which does not explain by she is insists on being represented by ADF, which has no interest in any space jam at the Taj Mahal, but is intensely concerned in fighting gay marriage on religious grounds. Marylee Shrider says we just have to believe Ann Barnett, despite all of the evidence to the contrary, and attempts to explain away the ADF connect by saying, "Who was she supposed to consult? The ACLU?" This is what is known as a "false comparison", something Marylee does all the time. In a "false comparison" a party attempts to justify a ridiculous action by pointing to an even more ridiculous action as the only alternative. So Marylee, the answer to your question is NO, what Barnett was supposed to do was take the advice of Barney Barmann, the County Counsel. The problem is that she didn't like his advice, so she contacted a bunch wingnuts. Chad Vegas assumes that Barnett's action is on religious grounds, and threatens the Supervisors with divine retribution if they don't support her. Of course, Vegas' position means that Barnett is a liar, which, the last time I looked, was a sin. This doesn't seem to faze Vegas in the slightest. posted by

Sage, I'm now watching the John Adams mini-series that was produced by HBO. Laura Linney as Abigail Adams is stealing the show. She's doing a remarkable job. Paul Giamatti is miscast as John Adams, but is doing a good job. The rest of the cast is fantastic, especially Tom Wilkerson as Benjamin Franklin. BakersfieldSuperman should watch it as well. He'd learn some history and he'd find out about the Tories.

I, for one, favor 1776 as my favorite Revolutionary War movie. OK, so it's a Musical, I still smile every time William Daniels (who plays John Adams) says, "..I'm obnoxious and disliked.." I'd guess that Chad Vegas has never watched 1776. It is a Musical, and some of those actors - gasp - just might be gay! posted by

How come it is OK for the left wing progressives to always call us name and pretend THEY are right and have the majority on their side when nothing could be further from the truth! For example for years they tore into to us about abortion and then we find out the majority want some reasonable compromise especially on late term abortions. Gay rights. Same thing. They yell and scream at us with displays of debauchery and then we find out the Gay community is maybe 6-8% of the population. We as Christian conservatives are simply fed up with the left and their practices of always being right and we Christian are noting more than misguided souls who are nuts and hypocrites! Enough is enough. Shut up. The majority still rules!

Neoconguy, the majority of liberals support some restrictions on late term abortions. That's a liberal position. And yes, liberals do support civil rights for everyone, including minorities. It also happens to be the reason our country was founded as a democratic republic instead of a direct democracy. posted by

Awesome joke, Witters! We're all entitled to our opinions. The difference between us bloggers and Ann Barnett and Chad Vegas is, at the end of the day, our opinions are still that--opinions. Ann Barnett and Chad Vegas seem to believe that we are not entitled to our opinions. We are only entitled to THEIR opinions, and because they hold public office, their opinions are the ONLY opinions, and they're flexing their political muscles to shut up anyone who doesn't agree with them. Who said this is a free country? Not Ann or Chad. There's a difference between opinion and law. If only Ann and Chad were smart enough to realize that. posted by
