Does anyone care about Britney Spears? Should stories about her be on local news stations in addition to ET and tmz and all those ridiculous shows? We're not talking she killed someone.... we're talking she was spotted bar-hopping. Can anyone help me understand why people care about stories like that?

Does anyone care?
Does anyone care enough about Britney Spears to want to see her on the evening news? We're not talking she killed someone... we're talking she was spotted bar-hopping. Can anyone help me understand why we care?

I don't know why. I have never cared. She is a stupid girl raised by a really stupid mom. I hate hearing about her.

I hesitated to comment here because I don't want to seem snipey but the reason people keep talking about it is because people keep talking about it.    If people would stop posting every time she passes gas or wrinkles her nose, (or gets arrested) then this would all die off.  As long as people ask questions like "why do we care" it brings her right up in the front of peoples minds.  Let it die a natural death.  Stop talking about it.

I hope you don't take offense Tangled because it wasn't personal..it's just that everyone wants to know why we talk about it while they're talking about it.  Now that 's someting I don't get.

Nancy -  I ask because at my job, I'm essentially told I have to care because our target audience cares... and so I asked, "says who?" No one knows says who, so I wanted to find out myself if people really do care. Personally, I don't care if people care and I don't care if people talk about it... I just want to know why they do, IF they do.

It's just a twisted celebrity thing that us human beings have.. we see these "beautiful" people with money and fame and we either can't understand why they don't have perfect lives or we think they have perfect lives and we gotta follow every dumb thing they say or do and drag up junk from their past.. it's an immense waste of time and it was irriating the you-know-what out of me today at the gym.. it was all about O.J. Ugh. I agree, so what?

What I don't understand, is the young people who have talent, who get the big break and appear to be going strong.   Then suddenly they fall into this dark downward spiral that keeps sucking them in, be it drugs, alcohol, or wild partying.  And whats up with the rehab thing?  I mean really does everyone and their dog really need rehab?  I mean look some of them go for 14 days or 30 days - what good does that do?  None.  It doesn't really matter, what matters to me is why is this a continual happening for our young stars?  Maybe its too much too soon.  I know that if my teenager fell into something like this, I think I would have tried to keep a low  profile for them.  I blame the media for a lot of it too.  They make these young people think they're so great and so interesting that the public can't live without them.  BS.  What happened to the stars who have that long standing stardom?  Years of stamina and hard-work "and they're still humble".  I think it's the upbringing or lack of good  parenting.  Blame it on the parents, peers, drugs, alcohol, its all the same....BS  It's a lack of honor and caring about others, that's what I think.  Many youngsters are into one thing its called me me me.  Sorry you won't see another post about this from me because I'm sick of it too.  I just wanted to vent because I'm so sick of it,   UGH  Maybe I need rehab.

The way I see it... sometimes not getting what we want hurts us.. but getting what we DO want does far more harm. Being "famous" is a big responsibility. I feel bad for all the young people who "have it all", who have the fake friends, the money, they have people telling them how wonderful they are, they are getting picked apart daily, got people following them, following everything they say, do, wear, what they have done, what they are doing, what they are going to do, they are modern day gods and we look at them like they "have all the answers", but they are poorer than us. It's actually a miracle there's "normal" people in hollywood. They get such big egos that they need the  constant high, and when fame doesn't do it for them anymore they turn to other things to get their fix. It's really sad.

I don't care, and never did. She never had any talent to begin with, only looks. That only goes so far unless you're Christie Brinkley. (NO comparison!) I change channels whenever BS comes on. Why the general public seems to be enthralled with her misadventures is a mystery to me. I liken it to those who feel they simply MUST slow down and stare at a car wreck on the road, even though it is really nothing interesting and none of their business. It is also just as annoying.

I think some people, like myself, are always hoping that she'll straighten up.  She was a good entertainer at one time (talent ?) and to the common folk (like us) it's unforgivable that she's lamely throwing it all away.  She's a trainwreck and, THAT"S why she's in the news.

You are so right on that. Not only do I really not care if she is drinking, I feel in fact that it is not my business. People see her constantly in the news and they begin to acutally hate he. I have no idea why we love to hate people so much. Britney and Paris with all that money having a great time with it. Who wouldn't? I guess being hated is part of being a celebrity. If had their money and their youth I would probably be having one heck of a good time too, and probably that would lead in excess on occasion, but "The road of excess leads to the palace of wisdon",

Anyway all they can do is keep on keeping on and live their lives, too bad we (America) will not let them.
