Critics of Bakersfield Restaurants Active This Week
Lots of opinions were published this week about local restaurants. I'm not sure if I agree with them all.
Pete Tittl The resident food critic of The Bakersfield Californian, Pete Tittl, reviewed the Red Pepper in this Thursday's Eye Street. Some of the Inside Guide reviewers don't rave about the Red Pepper like Pete did. What do you think? See the Red Pepper Reviews | Read Tittl's most recent reviews | See Tittl Reviews Mapped Dining Divas from Bakersfield Life In the upcoming issue of Bakersfield Life this Saturday, the Dining Divas take in the tastes and aromas of Champs BBQ. They loved it. Do you? See the Champs Reviews \ Dining Diva Penny \ Diving Diva Lydia \ Dining Diva Tracy \ Dining Diva Katie
Do you think you could do it too? You think you'd be a good critic? Let me know! I'm forming a "Review Crew" to hit up some local businesses and share our ratings and reviews! There may be some special perks too! :) 4 comments from 4 users

I agree with you truthhurts. Hitting up local businesses sounds like it could be fun. I eat out quite often and would love the opportunity to share my insights. posted by

Pete Tittl picks and chooses by his own likes, not those of the community. Last week's review, telling someone from out of town that a restaurant was worth visiting, and then giving it only 2 and a half stars, was absurd. Do we want visitors to vist 4/5 starts restaurants for a good impression, or one who couldn't get above a 3 star? Also,I really think Luigi's has been covered enough. What about Outback? Oh, right, Pete likes Tahoe Joe's better, so why bother with what someone else would like to read about? Oh, well, I don't follow Tittl anymore, as he is too biased (needs replacing?). . posted by

I raved about the Pepper Tree and when I took my family there for fathers day it was a total $93 dollar disaster... food AND service wise..... and no one offered to make it right in any way. I demanded they take the pancakes off because they were flat and couldn't be cut with a fork. If I hadn't, they would have charged me for those too. It was so bad that a whole family got up and angrily walked out. Which is what we should have done. Never again Two waitresses took the order so two tickets went in. One table was completely finished eating before the other table got their food. Food taken out of the window and left on the back counter with no heat. Couldn't get a refill on coffee. Had to ask 3 times for butter for pancakes (which were inedible) One never got his biscuits and gravy and when I mentioned it when paying I was told there was no charge anyway as they came with the meal. (HUH?) Ham steak cold in the middle. I had to ask again for my toast. Was told the cook was new and then later told his girlfriend came in, called the cops, and he was outside. Wait staff totally inexperienced. Never got the baby's juice. Offered to pour coffee and was told "No, I'm the waitress." (coulda fooled me) The first table finally took their dirty plates off the table and put them on an adjoining one. Neither server offered to take a dirty plate away. There's more, and I'll remember later. I had gone in personally on Saturday to let them know we would be there Sunday morning and they reserved a table for us. It was downhill from there. As I said, one table walked out, another left $1 for a tip. This place is no where near ready to serve more than one or two tables at a time. I lost a chunk of money that day, but they lost a whole lot of customers. I ended up with all 3 servers at the register and told them that I'd spent 20 years in the food and beverage business and had never seen anything like that. Also let them know that even if they have no control over the food, they need to be there with that coffee pot and visible to the tables at all times. We had to keep going around to the counter to ask for things. It's a shame too because this place is near my house and I was looking forward to them becoming a "local hangout."
