Jackass of the Week Award

Ex-NBA star Jayson Williams allegedly trashed a suite in a suicidal rage and was subdued by a stun gun and taken to a psychiatric clinic, New York police said.

Police used a stun gun and two sets of handcuffs to subdue Williams. They allegedly found suicide notes and empty bottles and vials of sleeping pills, antidepressants and human growth hormone, police sources told the New York Post.

The Award is shared this week by Williams for being Williams and the NYPD for using a stun gun on a suicidal man.

Thoughts from the Darkside

I am a long time Oakland Raiders fan. Yes it is true. Through the good years and through the not so good years, I keep coming back for more. I suppose in the hopes that one day Al Davis' "Commitment to Excellence" will once again bring glory to the Raider Nation. A time when the silver and black reign supreme atop the AFC West and again take their place amongst the coveted teams of the Monday Night Football ranks.

Yes the good times. A time when the Raiders had an incredible 14-game winning streak on Monday Night Football. Only to be snapped by division rivals located somewhere along the Mexican border town of San Diego, but to come back a year later to reclaim another Monday night victory over that same Chargers team. A time when winning three championship titles was more than just a new Nike contract. A day when the coaches whistle is not mistaken for a ring-tone, and the weekly team scrimmage doesn’t look like Monday Night Smack Down. Now a day the Raiders players need a more of a babysitter than a head coach.

The Raiders, since their Super Bowl XXXVII defeat to the Bucs, are 19-61 over the past five seasons, have the NFL’s worst record during that span.

So you ask me, “Why are you a Raiders Fan”? I will tell you.  “I'm a Raiders fan because I love football. I love passion. I love the fans. I love the colors. I love the team”.  I love the Raiders so much that I was giving a presentation for work on day. I started the presentation "Let's go raiders!". Which had nothing to do with the presentation. At the end of the presentation, someone asked me "Why did you say Let's go Raiders?" I simply replied, "Who wouldn't?"

Every Raider fan I know is either on probation or parole, or a step away from it.... Comprende?

I was a die hard Dallas fan since about the age of 5. I breathed Dallas thick or thin.

Then they acquired Terrel Owens. I put up with it for about a year then dropped the team totally. I missed them and was tempted to go back then..they picked up Pacman Jones.

OMG!

Never will I support Dallas again!

But, sorry NoiseFactor. My football motto will forever be.......

ANYONE BUT THE RAIDERS!

My crystal ball tells me that the Raiders next winning season will be in 2048.

Die, Raiders; die, die, die with festering boils, DIE!

You obviously don't have a large list of acquaintances.

Been a Raiders fan since 1968, not on parole or probation, never been arrested. Have had beer tossed at on me in Denver and Kansas City. Heckled in San Diego. Still a fan.

My name's Rick, and I'm a Raiders fan...

(Although I'm a bigger Dodgers fan...I'll wear Silver and Black, but I BLEED DODGER BLUE!!!)

FSG, I live in East Bako, the heart of the Raider Nation here. But thankfully my neighborhood has few Raider fans. Otherwise I would go out to my truck in the morning and find the wheels gone and the truck setting on cinder blocks.

Rick, do you know that the FBI Academy in Virginia uses a likeness of Tommy Lasorda for their targets on the shooting range?

They can't miss...not with that physique.

Mike, I KNOW you're a GIANTS fan. I let it slide anyways...

I know plenty of Raider fans who are law-abiding and respectable citizens.  Maybe you should get out of the East side.

Please introduce a respectful and well educated Raiders fan! And then we can get a beer with the ugly girls at the Titled Kilt and watch those flying pigs! ...I doubt many respectful well educated non criminal Raider fans exist...at least here in SoCal.

2048 Now that's funny! ;-)

Go JETS!!!

In years past when the Raiders are doing well, Raider flags are on every third car. True fans fly their flags regardless, not just when their so called team is winning.

Virtually my entire in-law family are all die-hard Raider fans, and many go to the games.  None of these people have ever been in trouble with the law, and they are all respectful citizens, quite a few have college degrees, some even advanced degrees.

I'm personally not a fan (then again, I'm all about college ball, not NFL).. but quit speaking out your ass.

FSG ~ Please inspect your "sense of humor" indicator. Is the switch in the "ON" position?

FSG, if you're all about college ball, you and my husband would get along fine. He warned me today that college starts this weekend ... his alum is USC but when I asked what time the game started he gave me that look that said "haven't you figured it out by now that every game is to be watched?"

The Fresno State vs. USC game (2005) was a night to remember in this family.

Been to a few Raider games in Oakland over the years. Always had a great time, win or lose. The fans are crazy  about football and having a good time.  What's wrong with that?  Riding on Bart with the costumed  and Raider consumed  lunatic  makes a person feel alive.

It seems it gets harder these days to be a fan on the outskirts of civilization for any team in smaller towns and cities where the NFL, or MLB, or NHL, or the NBA rarely if ever make an appearance, and the salaries and owner profits have swelled to gargantuan proportions. TV with corporate sponsors and fantasy internet gambling just seems to suck the life out of the team aspect of all these sports. Pro football is Brady, Favre and the Manning boys. Football has a second level of celebrities but they are interchangeable and very transient and usually involve off field activities. There isn't anything else that is hardly commented on about players and teams performance other than a quick summation on a ranking list somewhere in cyberspace.

Glad to read there are still die hard fans.

Raiders, ffffttttt!  Interesting how the "Raider Nation" all but disappeared these past few years when they've sucked.  So much for having such die-hard fans.

I grew up in San Diego when Dan Fouts and company rocked the AFC, so I'm glad to see the tide turn the Chargers' way once again.  GO BOLTS!  This season we will once again chew up and spit out the Raiders.

If the last 5 years have taught me anything, it's that I don't get my hopes up. Potentials need to be reached, injuries need to be avoided. Win the home games, don't lose more than 1/2 the away games. Avoid penalties

I'm a fan, but not rabid. I wasn't an "in your face" type of fan even when they were battling the Steelers every year either. The game has changed.

Free agency has made it all but impossible to build a team and keep a team together for the number of years in takes to mature into a dynasty. I'm a closet Colts fan and have lately been rooting for players more than teams.

This has happened in all three major sports (Sorry Canucks, hockey is still not a major sport) and made it difficult to remain a fan of THE TEAM.

I'm  a Dodgers fan and have had my heart broken by the the Blue Crew more times than I care to count. Watching Karros, Piazza, Mondesi, Hollandsworth and Nomo come through Bako, rise through the ranks and win the Rookie of the Year for 5 straight years only to have them traded away by the big club just hurt.

Others like LoDuca, Izturis and Cora traded mid season and destroying TEAM chemistry in the process.

Coletti is beginning to have some of his moves pay off, but injuries have once again affected the season. Ownership has begun to spend serious money in persuit of a pennant, but ultimately we the fans are paying the price.

Parking at Dodger Stadium, with room for  17,000 cars, has been raised from a recent $5.00 to $15.00. 17,000 multiplied by $15 multiplied by 81 home games will get you a Manny ($20M per year).

I can only afford to attend 2-3 games per season when in past years I'd travel the 116 miles (door to Parking lot) 8-10 games annually.

My husband and I are die hard fans....This past Christmas we had a Raider tree....I went out and bought all silver and black Christmas oraments...they even sell Raider candy canes (fake)....I had the tree flocked and the tree was so awesome...My hubbie was so proud of his Raider tree. During football season we turn my husbands bathroom into a mini Raider nation.....everything from raider rugs to Raider tooth brushes (new of course)...most of our friends bring thier own toothbrushes when they stay over and the ones that don't would rather have stinky breath vs brushing with a raider toothbrush.....we love haters.

So yes we are proud Raider fans that are not on probation or parole......we just love the game.

Y'all realize that Al Davis has been dead for 4 years now right?

They just prop his mummified body up in the corner, and a pre-recorded message has him saying...

"Throw deep, throw deep to Cliff Branch" and "Put in Blanda dammit".

The Raiders really need to join the 21st Century.

FSG, if you're all about college ball, you and my husband would get along fine.

The only problem is I think USC is over-rated.

That could be FSG, but I bet they'd whip the Seminoles butt. ;)

Actually, SC has question marks about their offensive line, (Carroll has been pleased with this week's o line practice though), and they don't have too many clutch receivers. But they have a bevy of good RBs, and the back 7 on defense are the best in the nation.

They should roll over Virginia, but Ohio State will be a low scoring slobberknocker.

So timec and her husband are die hard Raider fans. I rest my case.

The biggest shame my boys could ever imagine is sad but true.....Their mom likes the Raiders. (I actually like lots of teams)  My #2 son is a quarterback and his coaches call him "Snake"  because his passes remind them of Stabler.  My liking the Raiders has to do with the fact that at least 3 of their past quarterbacks were also Houston Oilers at one time.  Love ya Blue----Go Oilers?!?

I thought Raider fans were on the obnoxious side until I moved down here close to some charger fans. Geez, talk about obnoxious. I'm hoping to get to go up to Macafee this year and catch a game. Watching JaMarcus will be amazing. The guy looks so big back there. In the shotgun he looks supersized. Him and McFadden should be fun to watch as long as they don't try to pass too much like we saw on Saturday.

I highly doubt that.  USC rarely plays a team with an excellent Defense.  While our Offense has sucked it up for the past 7 years, our Defense has shown as always, and is normally ranked as one of the best D-lines in the country. Our Linebackers KILL.

posted by antiextremism on Aug 27, 2008 at 11:47 AM

Don't doubt it FSG. SC is ranked 3rd, The Seminoles are probably the 3rd best team.............. in Florida. (Probably better than Miami anyway)  LOL

Their defense is okay, but they only scored about 17 points a game last season.

Linebackers? SC has the best group of LBs in the nation, bar none.

I don't look for the Trojans to be National Champs this season, or have their usual high powered offense, but I highly doubt if the Seminoles could score more than twice against them.

Baddest LB in College Football!
