Getting wisdom teeth removed no fun, kind of boring
Right now I'm lying on my couch, looking like a chipmunk, watching "Who Framed Roger Rabbit." I had no idea getting my wisdom teeth removed would be so boring. (And for the record, "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" is the only thing on besides "The Princess Diaries 2." I've watched most of my movies so many times that at the moment none of them seem appealing.) I think my sudden period of painlessness and boredom could be due to the vicodin kicking in. What was it liked when you got your wisdom teeth taken out? I got three out today. That part wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. And one tooth was rather big, growing in sideways. The surgeon had to take that one out in pieces. I wasn't put all the way under, just local anesthesia and a pill that made me feel groggy. The dentist's office called it "the happy pill." My mouth is still bleeding a bit and is sore to the touch. I might try biting on a black tea bag, which is supposed to clot the blood. Any other tips? Hope your Friday night is going better than mine.

I had mine taken out under sodium pentathol when I was 15..... (under his breath... 1973).... I remember I was real messed up from the S.P. when I came out of it.... not in a bad way.... kind of good actually. I got all four broken in pieces before being extracted. I have had way worse tooth pain since.... it wasn't that bad as I remember. Bakoborn is correct about the "hole cleaning"...You will be just fine.... but like Bakoborn said "milk it for all you can"... no one else needs to know you are not miserable.... enjoy it while you can. posted by

My best friend after getting all four of mine out was the ice pack. Helped cut down on that chipmunk look too. And like Bako said, the salt rinses with that syringe thingie is a must. posted by

They put me out when I got my removed. When I came out of anesthesia, they asked if I was epileptic, because I had what looked like a seizure when I came to. Interesting...nope I said, I was having a bad dream when I was under. Weird. posted by

Gah. I need to get mine taken out some time this year. I don't even want to hear about cleaning the extraction hole ... la la la la la *fingers in ears* They'd better put me under! I have the world's worst gag reflex. which makes every trip to the dentist an ordeal ( for the poor dentist more than for me, of course. ) posted by

i got mine removed almost 3 years ago at Dr. Koh, he and his staff are great. They put me completely under. I remember them spraying something on my arm to numb it then they injected me with a syringe full of white liquid, then I was asleep and then woke up, thinking only 5 minutes had gone by. My Mom had to drive me home and I was so hungry because I hadn't eaten, knowing they would be using general anesthesia. I remember trying to eat at one point a few hours later and the wounds hadn't clotted yet. The gauze I took out of my mouth was bothering me too, so I took it out and blood was pouring out. I freaked out and stuck the gauze back in and fell asleep sitting up. Later that night I was able to eat some eggs tossed into my mouth, haha. The first day was bad, but the second day was perfectly fine. No one could tell I had surgery and by the way, had all 4 taken out, 2 were impacted. I was told my the nurse at my work to drink 8 ounces of pineapple juice every day a week before the surgery and voila! no bruising or swelling. Wasn't too bad of an experience and they also prescribed percocet for me, whoo hoo :) posted by

Thanks for all your suggestions and thoughts. I went to the dentist this morning with bad mouth pain. I found out I had a dry socket. Talk about pain. My chin all the way up to my right ear was throbbing. I don't smoke and did everything I was supposed to, so I was somewhat surprised. My dentist said sometimes it's just bad luck. But now I'm OK. He gave me some good medicine. Yay dental health.
