UP THE STAKES!
Do you think the sentences for child molesters and rapest should be higher? Do you think if a life sentence was the punishment for sex crimes we would see a decrease in these horrible crimes? Life sentences would not decrease the number of sex crimes; these people have been around since day one, and always will be. Many sex offenders in this valley are men in their 20s who had 13 or 14-year-old girlfriends ("Get 'em while they're inexperienced, that way there's less of a chance you'll suffer by comparison" is their motto). Death sentences for molesters will never get out of committee. posted by

"Raising the stakes" on sex crimes is telling the criminal that he might as well kill his victim. I have only one criticism of our criminal justice system: It doesn't work. Other than that, we're doing everything right. burnssucks and vanity are 100% right. Tougher sentencing will not make sex crimes go away. Child safety is a parental and demanding responsibility.
