TomW - > All Politics Are Local -> Stephen Coal Bear on Channel 17 tonight!
Stephen Coal Bear on Channel 17 tonight!
Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that KGET TV-17 will be doing a story on Stephen Coal Bear tonight on the 5 o'clock news.  Be sure to tune in and check it out.

Also, big thank you to my friend Laurie, without whom this would not have been possible.  She stepped up in a big way.

I'll definitely repost the video when it goes up.  In the meantime, swing by the Friends of Steven Coal Bear Website and the Steven Coal Bear MySpace page.

And if you haven't already, head out to CALM or fill out their online form and send it in with a donation.

EDIT: Great story tonight.  Here's the link: http://www.kget.com/mediace...

One last bit.  Here's the link to the Channel 17story: http://www.kget.com/mediace...

Anyone else catch that they used the footage of Colbert talking about their coverage of another story in Bakersfield?

Too much meta.

While I'm giving credit, msemilyh also helped me lots on nuts and bolts of MySpace.

Woof, thanks so much for that.  You picked the whole layout.  Well done.

I was glad to help with the background on the now famous bear's myspace page....now Stephen Colbert has to come back next week and talk about the real Threatdown.  BEARS!    And the new addition at CALM that should "bear" his name ....c'mon Stephen....where ever you are.

My favorite bear names are Yogi and Boo Boo.

Sage, both of those are the real goals.  BTW, from the article: http://www.inergizedigitalm...

The newest bear at the California Living Museum has a fan club.

As CALM considers the public’s suggestions on what to call the furry newcomer, a local group has mounted a grizzly campaign needing your help to name the future star.

Stephen “Coal” Bear now has a MySpace page, and seems to be smarter than the average bear. The actual Stephen Colbert is the host of the widely popular “Colbert Report” show on Comedy Central.

The bear at CALM is a media newcomer, eating trout and berries while enjoying long afternoons of sleeping and scratching.

Laurie Alexander is behind the campaign for naming the new bear, and she said he would be grateful for your vote.

"You can start … by going online and looking at CALM’s website,” Alexander said. “You can do the Friends of Stephen ‘Coal’ bear website … Visiting the website is the greatest thing ... it will tell you everything that's going on."

Ah well, I wasn't in it for the fame either.

Lol about zero Tom, but it will help Calm and maybe Bakersfield gets a bit of positive national attention.

Awww, now Audrey, I'm not trying to back door anything.  I went down there and paid 2 admissions plus an extra 20 with my submission.  I've also got a few people across the country to donate.

It's all for the good and just between you and me:  What are the chances they'll really name the bear Stephen?

That's fine Robin.  I'll give Tim a call and they can run a correction tomorrow.  Spread out the coverage... :)

I paid a dollar for my shot at naming the bear.   Quit trying to back door a "fan club" name.   Besides Stephen Coal Bear is  a mouthful and would probably confuse people who only get basic cable.

Seriously, everyone should submit a name.  The proceeds go towards completing the mountain lion exhibit.

!#@%&*

I watched a freaking hour of that crappy news channel only to find that those idiots spelled it COLE! Can you believe that, Tom?

UUUUUUGH. I can't believe them! They're so stupid! This is why I can't stand broadcast journalism; they never check their sources to make sure they get things correct and always have the most ridiculous misspellings! The idiot even went so far as to spell the site's name with "cole." Stupid idiots.

The segment has been bumped to 6PM, for those who thought they missed it.

Thanks to all of you here as well who have helped me to build the MySpace page and signed up when it was just getting started.

So,  what's next for the bear?
