Goodbye [edit.]!
Well... my stay in Bakersfield has finally come to an end. I am back in Los Angeles, and so this is going to be my last blog entry. Kinda seems fitting though with Obama's victory. I think im just gonna sit back and watch for a while now. As for Obama winning, I gotta say that for the first time in a long time I have had hope for this country of mine. It showed that we as a people are willing to learn from our mistakes, at least temporarily. It also showed the world that "we the people" are still this country, not the neo-con hate mongers. Obama is no Kerry, Clinton, or Gore. McCain is closer to any of them in my opinion. Obama is something truly new, and we are going to see some amazing things. As for prop 8.. I am pretty sure that the supreme court is going to overturn it, but like I said in previous posts, California has spoken and while I disagree with them, I believe they have the right to decide, so I will support it's legality. I would like some of you out there to remember this when deciding how you feel about local vs federal medical marijuana. And on an end note... I just want to say that it has been fun getting to know all of you. Randomfactor and gopher.... dude you guys make me laugh. Spartan.... dead on my brodah. Pete, hotnfog and h8.. keep up the good work too. Maggie (scarecrow).... lol im gonna miss you most of all. Acta, nancy2, murphy, sioux, catpaw and the rest... I am gonna miss you all too, though not in the same way :P Oh and ApolloDawn.... if you are even 1/2 as beautiful outside as you are in, I wanna meet you :P OK thats it.. I feel the overwhelming urge to say something controversial so.... I guess remember that the ONLY threat to freedom is from ourselves. Period. Good luck all. 8 comments from 5 users

neo-con hate mongers Are neocon "hate mongers" the only kind of "hate mongers" around? What about those who would never use the "n" word (I wouldn't myself) but have no qualms about calling white people "rednecks," "white trash," or "crackers"? Of course I don't mind being called a redneck. I've gotten in touch with my inner redneck and have actually embraced him. Furthermore, you say Obama is going to do amazing things. What sorts of amazing things might those be? You talk about him like he's Jesus Christ coming to save the world. That sort of blind, niave trust is what emboldened potential despots. With all of that, I do thank you for speaking your mind, and for contributing to the dialogue here. You will be missed, even by neocon rednecks like myself. posted by

WTH they edited redneck? First off redneck is not a name for white people. It is a name for a very small, specific group of white people, so comparing it to the N word is a really poor correlation. Cracker is closer, but I dont remember ever calling anyone cracker. And Jason Sperber... you need to loosen up dude. The ability for people to express themselves without censorship is something you obviously dont care too much for. The funny thing is the comment on my blog for the last 2 years has be "Sup Rednecks" and it has yet to be edited, showing that the editing process of this site is solely what Jason feels like deleting at the moment. Anyway.... Redneck is not a racist term. Sorry. Prejudiced maybe, but not racist, and therefore perfectly acceptable in my eyes. posted by

I'm actually quite impressed that Jason is such an equal-opportunity defender. It makes me proud to be from Bakersfield, a city a city where you are free to come and go, but a city where you need to be careful how you make your grand exit. posted by

I use it to describe myself. I've discovered, through my own soul-searching, that there is an inner redneck within, and I've decided to claim that redneck, and embrace him, rather than get into the whole process of self-loathing. I think the rule should apply that you can call yourself a redneck, just as many African-Americans use the "N" word to describe themselves. But if someone doesn't want me offending myself, then I don't mind being censored in that way. It's very nice of you, by the way, to be so concerned about me calling myself names. posted by

So it's not alright to say rednecks in general, but evidently it's okay to call liberals chicken necks? Sounds pretty even handed to me. After letting nobama post repeated hate spewing rhetoric for days, redneck goes over the line? LOL Goodbye Tridge. Be careful on that big parking lot they call the LA freeway. posted by

Tridge, Congratulations on leaving Bakersfield! If you stayed much longer, you'd probably be sucked into the Bakersfield black hole and wouldn't be able to escape. Who knows maybe I'll find a decent job in a progressive city. Bakersfield's economy sucks. Take care.
