Sorry I don't know anything about baseball.  But the cartoon is analogous of a spiritual truth.

Look out OldBlue, game-of-the-year this weekend: St Louis @ SF. We're praying hard up here that it doesn't sell out and another game will be televised. "Dear Lord, have pity..."
