The Roots of Homosexuality.
The Reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 1:18-27 BRETHREN, the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and wickedness of men who by their wickedness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. Ever since the creation of the world his invisible nature, namely, his eternal power and deity, has been clearly perceived in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse; for although they knew God they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking and their senseless minds were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man or birds or animals or reptiles. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever! Amen. For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural, and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error. 20 comments from 8 users

We don't you include the REST of the story? Pay close attention to Roman's 2:1-4
28Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them. Romans 2God's Righteous Judgment1You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. 2Now we know that God's judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. 3So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God's judgment? 4Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance?

Does this make you feel better?
How sad that you're using the Bible (of course we don't know which translation you've decided to pick and choose from) to condemn people you've never met. How nice. Actually there's nothing nice about it. I guess it would be difficult to think that the reason the christians didn't want men to be gay is because they wouldn't procreate (aka make more christians). Nah, that makes too much sense.
Are you really so dense to think that people can choose who they are attracted to? Do you choose, or do you just "know" you like the opposite sex? posted by

For one I haven't condemned and judged anyone and I am just passing along the warning that God gave us. Sin of any kind is bad for us and only leads to eternal suffering. God sacrificed His only Son that we may be free and have eternal life. So if you don't like the message don't blame me and don't blame God. You have made your own choice and will reap your own chosen reward. P. S. the text additions that Florida added say that if you condone sin you will receive the same reward as the person who commits the sin. So all those conformist who would condemn homosexuals to eternal suffering in the name of "if it feels good do it." will share the same fate. posted by

How convenient. You can tell people they're sinners, senseless, impure fools, and that they are doomed to eternal suffering, but you don't have to take any sort of responsibility for judging them (since that would be bad in your eyes). That works out pretty well for you, doesn't it.
You never answered my question. Do you choose to be straight or are you just "naturally" attracted to the opposite sex? posted by

OK, so what you're saying is that you are attracted to your same sex, but choose the opposite sex? I'll accept that.
I'd also like to hear your explanation as to why many species of animals in the wild have been long known to be gay? posted by

I am saying that whatever sex I am attracted to the only lawful expression for those who choose to live in harmony with the will of God is sacramental marriage between a man and a women. As for animal homosexuality 1. those reports are biased ,because they are often made by homosexuals trying to find an excuse for themselves 2. All of creation was corrupted by mans original fall. 3. You can not ascribe human standards to animals. They don't have a spiritual nature that man does that is supposed to control there carnal nature. So animals will not experience heaven or hell, but humans will.

Romans 1:26 and 27, at first glance, appears to condemn gay and lesbian activity. Paul criticizes sexual activity which is against a person's nature or disposition. But in Greek society of the time, homosexuality and bisexuality was regarded as a natural activity for some people. Thus Paul might have been criticizing heterosexuals who were engaged in homosexual activities against their nature. He might not be referring to homosexuals or bisexuals at all. Homosexuals are acting naturally when engaging in homosexual relationships. The verses preceding 26 might indicate that he was referring to sexual acts associated with idol worship. The verse is too vague to be interpreted as a blanket prohibition of all same-sex activities. posted by

That is quite a twist in logic and very far removed from the real meaning. Also I have some Greek friends who get very indignant when homosexuals try to rewrite history and suggest that it was acceptable by the Ancient Greeks. They are quick to point out that the Ancient Greeks punished homosexuality with death. posted by

Mtndewrob has a point, Way. "and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women" That looks like a change to me, rather than referring to people who are homosexual by nature. Why do you believe that animals don't have a spiritual nature? I won't be staying long; the Moon is full tonight, and I have an Esbat to do. posted by

The Reading is from St. Jude's First Universal Letter 1:1-25 JUDE, a servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, To those who are called, beloved in God the Father and kept for Jesus Christ: May mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you. Beloved, being very eager to write to you of our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints. For admission has been secretly gained by some who long ago were designated for this condemnation, ungodly persons who pervert the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny the only Master and our Lord Jesus Christ. Now I desire to remind you, though you were once for all fully informed, that the Lord saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe. And the angels that did not keep their own position but left their proper dwelling have been kept by him in eternal chains in the nether gloom until the judgment of the great day; just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise acted immorally and indulged in unnatural lust, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire. Yet in like manner these men in their dreamings defile the flesh, reject authority, and revile the glorious ones. But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, disputed about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a reviling judgment upon him, but said, "The Lord rebuke you." But these men revile whatever they do not understand, and by those things that they know by instinct as irrational animals, they are destroyed. Woe to the ungodly, for they walk in the way of Cain, and abandon themselves for the sake of gain to Balaam's error, and perish in Korah's rebellion. These are blemishes on your love feasts, as they boldly carouse together, looking after themselves; waterless clouds, carried along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted; wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars for whom the nether gloom of darkness has been reserved for ever. It was of these also that Enoch in the seventh generation from Adam prophesied, saying, "Behold, the Lord came with his holy myriads, to execute judgment on all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness which they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against him." These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own passions, loud-mouthed boasters, flattering people to gain advantage. But you must remember, beloved, the predictions of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ; they said to you, "in the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions." It is these who set up divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit. But you, beloved, build yourselves up on your most holy faith; pray in the Holy Spirit; keep yourselves in the love of God; wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And convince some, who doubt; save some, by snatching them out of the fire; on some have mercy with fear, hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. Now to him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you without blemish before the presence of his glory with rejoicing, to the only God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and for ever. Amen. posted by

Actually, Wayfarer, during the time in which Paul lived, Greece was controlled by the Romans, who did partake in homosexuality.
