The short answer is people in Bakersfield don't patronize that type of movie. As an example, The Valley of Elah, came only to Valley Plaza (Tommy Lee Jones and Charlize Theron). It was a great movie, but there were very few people in the theater when I saw it. I'm glad Valley Plaza shows some of these films. posted by

I belong to netflixs,they have this feature that allows you to see"whats hot" in your home town...Steve is right, there is a small population for some types of movies here,yet Juno has been here awhile.. posted by

The movies you mentioned are from the speciality divisions of the major studios and are therefore only booked in a limited number ofr cities and even then a small number of theatres. If they show potential to "break out" of the arthouse circuit, they will slowly expand. That's why it takes a while for them to hit cities like Bakersfield (we'll get them when they hit close to 1,000 theatres nationwide).
