Don't tell me when to clap.
I went to see the USC-Cal game on Saturday and while the pre-game was amazing with loads of drunk college kids (10 percent of whom) were likely of legal drinking age and the campus was beautiful and buzzing pretty hard, the game itself was a bit of a disappointment to me.
Whenever USC needed to stop the Bears from moving downfield a cheerleader would hold up a sign "Noise" and everyone would make noise and a "noiseometer" would appear on the big screen and then the play would be over and the noise would be gone because presumably everyone was waiting to be told to make some noise again. It's the same (though to almost comical proportions) at the few Condors games I have been to. The announcer tells you when to stand up, cheer, clap your hands and generally get excited. Surely if the game is exciting enough you will know when to get excited without some muppet on a microphone telling you. I don't think I will ever get used to someone telling me when it's time to get excited. I would like to think I could figure that out on my own. I did find the perfect job at the USC game though. They appear to employ someone whose only assignment during the game is to train the camera on the fittest birds in the stadium and show them on the big screen. Now that is something I could get excited about. 5 comments from 4 users

I remember going to the taping of a sitcom and they do the same thing there. Like we need to know when to laugh. Sometimes it just helps pump up the crowd more than just expecting them to go crazy when the defense is on the field. There's nothing more draining for the home team than a dull crowd. There's nothing more exhilirating than a rowdy bunch cheering at the top of their lungs. Sorry about Cal losing. I was hoping they'd take em.
