Neat bobcat sighting
Not sure how rare this is, but I saw a bobcat Tuesday afternoon on a run with my dog. The bobcat wasn't running with my dog, but I was on a run with the dog when I saw the bobcat.
We were about 50 yards west of Truxtun Lake in the small wooded area. The cat was unmistakably a bobcat — it had a stumpy tail, was bigger than an average house cat and easily hopped up on a fallen tree branch to watch us as we approached. Of course, I didn't fancy a good mauling at the claws of this wild beast, so I watched for a bit then turned and ran back to where I came from. The dog didn't seem up for it either. It was about 3:45 p.m. and as I ran in the opposite direction I passed another runner so I thought I would alert him to the potential danger of continuing on his path. He rather nonchalantly mentioned that he had seen a few of these before and he wasn't at all alarmed. He then carried on into the wilderness. I hope he made it out in one piece. 6 comments from 4 users

My daughter and her girl friend were riding bikes in the same area awhile back. They came across the bobcat and according to them it wasnt at all afraid of them. It meandered across the bike path ,stopped and stared at them and then hopped in a bush. She called me on her cell phone as they were a little scared. I called Fish and Game and they said that citings in that area are plentiful. I asked if the girls would be safe and she said yes but just in case they would send someone out to check on them. The girls made it back but were a little uneasy coming back through the same area as it is pretty isolated.

I believe the Californian did an article on this some time back. Apparently, that end of the bike path is a favorite bobcat hangout.

I used to work with somebody who would walk his dog on the bluffs early in the morning before full light. One morning, his dog cornered something in the dark. Assuming it was a rabbit or another dog, he went over to pull his dog away, and found that it was a bob cat. By the way, Hi Nick! posted by

Speaking of wonderful animal sightings. I had a wonderful experience this morning when an immature redwinged hawk landed on a branch outside my office window. It was about a foot and 1/2 high a big ball of fuzzy looking feathers. The branch was bare of leaves and it was about 10 feet from my window at eye level. I got wonderful pictures of it and if I can figure out how to attach a picture I will (but thats not likely). It was there for about 3 hours eating a baby bird (ugh)... It was so fascinating I didnt get a lot of work done. posted by
