Mine would have to be chucky from the movie childs play because i think he is funny and scary all at the same time. But i think Jason from friday the 13th would be my second best favorite because i just think he looks cool, and we both have the same name.

having been born on Halloween the predictable blood and guts flicks have never really impressed me....wife loves em..i just dont get it..

real life horror stories are the only thing that gets my ticker going.. serial killers hauntings with evidence from credible eye witnesses....

in northern new mexico where i was born there are enough ghost stories and indian legends walking around those hills and rivers ..hollywood hasnt even come close..

Blood, gore and heads rolling down the street are not true scary movies.  Good scary movies are psychological thrillers that mess with your mind and imagination.  You never need to see gore to have a good scare.

Top on my list of all time terrifying movies is Psycho.  The original of course.

That's pretty cool i think that your birthday is on Halloween, but i have to agree that the real deal would be more scarier than what Hollywood does. To me its just the entertainment is what i like.

Have to agree with Sioux about serial killers. One of my favorite movies is a dark comedy, American Psycho. Other than that, I prefer my horror heroes to have an historical background like Vlad Tepis. Another favorite of mine, which consequently also has a reference to a Native American monster, is Ravenous, which takes place at the end of the U.S./Mexican War in a remote frontier outpost in the Sierra Nevadas starring Guy Pierce and Robert Carlyle.

Fun Blog Topic animalluvr ~

this time, i agree with nancy 100%

i am not a gore watcher, many friends and family members love the silly C-Rated gore flicks, not m e, i  L O V E   the mind thrillers, period, those mind freaks scare ME more than anything!!!!!!

i cant think of the best right now, (already enjoyed a bottle of cab so far!) BUT, i like things like Fracture, etc

to think of someone that CAN get away with a perfect murder scares me more than a 20-time 'dead-guy' ! LOL

oh ans PS ~ HELL no DOLLS or CLOWNS, please...augh! terrifying...........

Thank you for input and being honest goldilox. Maybe its because u haven't watch the right horror film yet. I'm just saying!

Hannibal Lecter has got to be the best serial killer ever invented.

Conventional Dracula and wolfman remain the champs.

catpaw, we're in agreement there.  On the list of scariest movies, Silence of the Lambs is second.  I watched it on video and for the entire movie, never moved an inch.  When it was over my shoulders ached from the tension.  I was a smoker back then and never lit up once, that's how engrossed I was.

Again, it wasn't gore that made it so good.

Fro a gripper but not horror, What Lies Beneath was scary too.

The thing from outer space that ate NY city in Cloverfield.

Zombies (Ghoules) scare me too, maybe more than anything else.

We (cousins and I) saw Paranormal Activity over the weekend.  As we left the theater I told them that the movie was a bust.  It didn't scare me at all because I don't believe in ghosts.

My cousin reminded me that ghouls don't exist either but that I'm terrified of them.  LOL

My vote goes to Silence of the Lambs also. Now if Goldilox had been drinking a nice Chianti.... lol

HEY ~ Silence is on the TV now!

I am watching it!

That is an excellent movie, indeed.

I loved What Lies Beneath too !

Mental Thrillers, Unite!   :)

Silence with commercial breaks would just destroy the ongoing, building tension if it's the first time anyone sees it.  Renting or netflix would be the best way to scare the bejeebus out of you.

yes, true ~ i have seen (all of them) numerous times, today i enjoyed the commercial breaks tho , since i was busy baking dozens of halloween cupcakes!

OH, and i thought of another scary movie i saw...Thirteen Ghosts, that gave me the jibbies....

I agree with Nancy.  Again.  It has to be Psycho, the original version.  "Norman" was completely believable.

The second version was an awful disappointment.  Why bother?

posted by goldilox on Oct 31, 2009 at 04:55 PM

Yep Original Psycho, They dont make 'em like that anymore!

Come on guys what about Freddy, Michael, and Jason. Who can say no to those.

Although not in the "Horror" genre, I think the Joker as portrayed by Heath Ledger in the last Batman film was the scariest character I have seen in a long time. I believe it was mostly because of the actor, not the part. It could have been played in a silly, unbelievable fashion, like Nicholson's Joker. But this one was realistic and chilling. He's my top "bad guy".

posted by animalluvr on Nov 2, 2009 at 12:28 AM

To me i don't think he was the best but he did play the part well.
