bakosphere - > Bakosphere -> Bakersfield's Pot Wars on PBS
Bakersfield's Pot Wars on PBS

Last night on KCET's "Life & Times," Bakersfield was discussed as a city taking a hard stance on marijuana dispensaries. KCET's "POT WARS" piece examined how California's legalization of medical marijuana puts it at odds with federal drug laws.

Donny Youngblood was interviewed about his tough stance locally on medicinal marijuana and the closures of local dispensaries. A former local dispensary owner also discussed his feelings of being muscled out of Bakersfield even though he held a valid dispensary license from the county.

While googling about this issue, I discovered a 2005 "Miss High Times" contestant from Bakersfield. Bakersfield also has an active "NORML" club that meets monthly at the Beale Library as well as a CSUB NORML club and BC NORML Club. You can even check out a bloggers response to the issue on Bakotopia.

I seen it last night...I'm sorry to say that until the State and the Federal government can come to terms..(yea,right)..the Feds are going to win...have you noticed that whatever the people of the State of California votes for..it's either overturned by some Judge..( the sludge from L.A. ) or this issue.Did we really waste our time going to the polls?....

Of course,thats just my opinion

I just looked at the Miss High Times contestant from Bako, Morgan.. She wants to become a pediatrician and prescribe marijuana to kids who have hyperactivity, instead of medication. That will sure help them in school. What a moron.

Do you know for sure it won't?  I have doubts about it, since the standard treatment is a stimulant and I can't see how the mechanism of cannabis would work--but stranger things have happened in medicine.

"They lie about marijuana. 'Marijuana makes you unmotivated.' Lie. When you're high, you can do everything you normally do, just as well; you just realize that it's not worth the ****ing effort. There's a difference.

" 'Sure, I could get up at dawn, get in traffic, go to a job I hate, that does not inspire me creatively whatsoever, for the rest of my life...... sure, I could do that...... or..... I could sleep till noon, get up, and learn how to play the sitar......'  "  --Bill Hicks

That begs the question that marijuana isn't medication. However, robotic law enforcers aren't widely reputed for questioning premises.

Ravi Shankar (Chancre) Mattloch Sure You would be great at that! Enough THC and even you would be "good" at it!

And the point of the parable is that even if he weren't a musician at the level of the internationally-honored Shankar, it wouldn't be because he partook of an innocuous drug like cannabis.  Now alcohol, on the other hand, will really mess up your harmonic resonance.

.

The world is full of unhappy, unsuccessful clerks who should be happy, unsuccessful sitar players.
