Blog Roundup: Music, tacos and this 'hellhole' we live in

Massive apologies to the person who relies on Tuesday's Radio Free Bakersfield podcast. It got lost in yesterday's monster dust storm. Here it is and it comes with the obligatory language warning. Good listening nevertheless.

We love this place too, so we were pleased to see a favorable review for Los Tacos De Huicho on some restaurant review site. Gotta love the big spinning stick. We'll get tarred and feathered if we don't mention our Inside Guide, so here's what reviewers wrote on that site.

This blogger calls Bakersfield a 'hellhole,' but he's not bashing it.

I LOVE Tacos de Huicho. I can not wait to be able to eat Mexican food again so I can go indulge in a sope and a gringa. Gringas bring back wonderful memories for me, when I was studying in Morelia, Michoacan, Mex. for a summer in college. Every night (literally) we would hit the bars and clubs and end up at this awesome taco joint called Taco Polis for gringas and a Negro Modelo. Being a gringa myself (white chick), the midnight (or often 3 a.m.) snack was perfect. Flour tortilla with chipped carne al pastor, melted queso, cebolla and cilantro on a plate. Then we had a tray of condiments on our table to choose from: spicy guacamole salsa, pink pickled onions, and pineapple. You pile it all high and tear off pieces of the tortilla to eat with your fingers. Delicious! The sopes at Tacos de Huicho are also sinfully delicious. Deep fried shells with yummy warm refried beans, cheese, lettuce, salsa, and more. I am so hungry right now. Too bad Mexican food gives me horrible heartburn right now. I want a gringa and a sope!!!
