bakosphere - > Bakosphere -> Starbucks closing 600 U.S. stores
Starbucks closing 600 U.S. stores

(Update note: Starbucks told us they are not releasing the locations of the affected stores)

The coffee giant needs a pick-me-up.

It's closing 600 underperforming stores in the U.S.

One of our Growth and Economy reporters is trying to find out if any local stores are affected. We'll let you know what we find out.

I've got nothing against Starbucks. They provide a service when I need it. It annoys me that they don't sell our newspaper inside the store, but I'm sure the average American coffee drinker will survive with 600 less Starbucks dotting our street corners.

I'm reminded of a story we ran a while ago, when all Starbucks stores closed early one night so the baristas could be taught how to brew coffee. Sadly, many of them will now have a lot more time on their hands to perfect the art.

I personally prefer to give my coffee business to our local owner/operators like at Juice and Java

It annoys you they don't sell TBC? Wow, and I wonder where all the customers at the local Starbucks get their local, in depth, award winning news stories?

I am annoyed when I go into Green Frog Market and there is a gal sitting inside the front doors asking me if I want a free newspaper. I already subscribe, so don't bother me...

Who drinks coffee, anyway, 'specially at $4 a cup?

I am sure there must have been more people like me that stopped drinking Starbucks and spending $4 on a everyday basis......and yes, I mean, everyday because they couldn't afford it especially after raising the price 3 times in the last year or so. I need to survive and have vets bills, so I drink one on the weekends now and only if I really want it! The way the economy is I am not surprised that they are closing stores but how about lowering your prices? That might help! So, I went from spending at least $120 a month to spending $20 there at the most for the last few months! Ok, I was crazy for spending that in the first place but I am truly addicted to caffeine. lol

Excedrin is way cheaper if you can't break your caffeine addiction.

Drat, foodjunkie beat me to the obvious joke about Starbucks store density.
