Say goodbye to fun weather
His wikipedia page says he was fired, but whacky local weatherman Lloyd Lindsay Young says that's not true. It's just that Tuesday was his last day. Regardless, Lloyd has left the KERO building and taken his dildo pointer with him. GOOOOOOOOOOD BYEEEEEEEEEEE LLLLOOOOOOOYYYYYYDDDDDDD! Here's a story we wrote about Lloyd a couple of years ago. 43 comments from 40 users

Thank God and Greyhound, he was hands downs the worst TV journalist (I use that term in the loosest sense) in Bakersfield. I will actually be able to watch KERO again. posted by

Lloyd announced at the end of the broadcast that he will be moving to a station in Sacramento. At first he irritated me but then he began to grow on me. I will actually miss my nightly laugh I had while watching him perform the weather. Good Luck Lloyd..... posted by

THANK GOODNESS! I'm so glad to see him leave. Didn't he understand that so many people hated his little "act" every night? I'll finally be able to watch 23 again! That's nice, because a bunch of my favorite shows are on ABC and I won't have to switch the channel whenever I see his face. posted by

As an old school radio guy myself, I'm gonna miss Lloyd. He's one of the great and Grand Old Men of broadcasting. I love ya Lloyd and I send you my best. BTW the "dildo" comment was uncalled for. posted by

This was too small of a market for someone like LL Young. There was nothing wrong with his style of weather reporting, he was just in the wrong place. posted by

From his crazy lingo "thunderbumbers" , "Sacratomato" to "Moooooooooojave" Lloyd made us all smile. He certainly had character I can say that much about him. We need more characters in the boring old news rooms is my opinion. The news is bad and depressing enough without adding stone faced lackluster announcers. I looked forward to his wacky talk, creative pointers and viewer pic's on the nightly news and truly am going to miss him. Now he'll have a little more weather to announce in Sacratomato ... maybe even some rain. posted by

I first watched Lloyd in Sacramento in the 1990s on one of their local UHF stations. He has always had the booming radio voice delivery but his weathercasts were pretty much confined to the malapropisms and the weather. I don't think he has a gig lined up in Sack-town, but will be moving back to a city where he is more comfortable. I wish him the best. posted by

I will miss Lloyd. You're right! This town was too small (minded) for him. What do you expect where the demographics show an average reading level of 8th grade. Good luck Lloyd! posted by

I never cared for a comic routine with my weather. I just want the news, weather & sports. If I want comic, I'll turn to a comedy channel. I can't tell you how many times I jumped for the remote whenever he came on. I like others on 23, but Lloyd really was an annoyance. Sorry, but you made your self larger than the weather you were suppose to report so you deserve this honest feedback. posted by

This goes to show you the ability of station management to run a TV station. Absolutely the worst and they knew it and continued! Welcome to BACKWARDSFIELD posted by

SENSORY OVERLOAD is the only way to describe him. Some people like it, some don't. He always seemed to LOVE his job. Not many people can say that. Good luck to you LLY posted by

I saw him at the tire store. He was normal there? What do you expect where the demographics show an average reading level of 8th grade. Good luck Lloyd! Are they really that high? They must have missed some neighborhoods, or the worst one's couldn't read at all to answer the survey. posted by

Lloyd was one of the nicest people at ABC23. He would come into my fishbowl office and rant and rave about the weather. He genuinely cared and would often go and fight to get cooling centers open. He always said, "People love me or hate me. There's no in between." He helped a kid I knew with a school project and I really appreciated that. posted by

The reason I quit watching 23 years ago. Bakersfield 'Backwardsfield'? What makes me 'backwards' if I don't want the weather reported by a clown in a business suit. Thankfully we were included in a phone survey that addressed the 'problem'. posted by

We used to watch Lloyd also when he was in Sacramento. Too bad he is leaving. Listen to KGO radio and you can hear him, he does the weather for them. I think his departure means no reason to watch Ch.8, they have so many technical problems, it is annoying. posted by

I had sent a letter to the station early last year about this knucklehead and his dumbed-down reports (I wish I kept it). The manager wrote back and identified that I am only one of an elite few who despised this man's reporting schtick. I'm glad to see that I'M NOT the minority. Stand up for yourself, Bakersfield!! There's plenty other yahoo's that should probably go as well. This isn't a small town anymore, but the News still makes it feel like it is. posted by

George was awesome. He brought humor to boring weather here in BACKWARDSFIELD. The Noise Factor herby grant the "JACKASS of the WEEK AWARD " to ABC23. Geeze maybe will get another pencil neck geek like Miles "Smouzzio" to do the weather on 23. BORING! This is the same reason that Johnny Carson was hated in NECKERSFIELD. I'll miss LLY. He is really the sweetest man. What you see is what you get and that was awesome. Don't meet a lot of TV personalities like that. I don't understand why people are so critical. As a TV personality, he is definitely entertaining. He knew people would either love or hate him... no in-betweens...and he was okay with that. People tuned in... he kept your attention whether you wanted to give it or not. Lloyd will be great in whatever he decides to pursue. My heart and prayers will travel with you... Keep up your great work! Bakersfield is losing a genuine icon.

Finally I can watch Channel 23 again. I wore out my remote control changing channels, and/or throwing it at the TV whenever he came on. I'm surprised he lasted as long as he did, considering you could see the irritation in his co-workers eyes whenever they had to sit thru his weather reports. posted by

Yeah, that makes no sense. You claim we're all no smarter than an 8th grader, but you don't mind Bako having a mentally retared person doing the weather. Make up your mind. posted by

I haven't had a chance to watch tv in several months ... with LLY gone the news is going to be back to its boring self. We lost a really nice guy. Why do we all want to see people as miserable as everyone else? I think it's refreshing to see someone who is nice and happy. posted by

All I can say is that with all the negative commentary and images so often associated with the news. It was great to have a personality that was willing to bring alittle wacky humor to break up the heaviness we sometimes felt watching the madness unfold everyday. Thank you Lloyd Lindsey Young for your service to our community. posted by
