The Wilted Kilt
It wasn't long before the Tilted Kilt discovered that drunk men and scantily clad women aren't always the best mix. Saturday night's stabbing is a sad reminder that even the best intended businesses are subject to the idiocy of the clientele that frequents them. Here's the latest reviews of the Kilt on our Inside Guide. Remember the good old days when the only thing to complain about was the price of a Guinness, or the sentiments of the 'boob man'? 23 comments from 14 users

Sounds like a joint that was intended to be a sports bar type of place and became a hangout for losers who can't get a date. Funny, if it were a gay bar there probably wouldn't be any noise or behavior complaints. posted by

Nancy, if you take note of the last name of the 2 brothers arrested, that should answer your question. posted by

Hey Nancy, that reminds me of Indiana Jones where Indy shoots the guy with the sword. The worst thing about this is that the staff gets the two guys drunk, then makes them leave. They don't call them a cab but unleashes the DUIs into our public streets, posted by

Roysan, I know from working in bars that there's only so much you can do with drunks An officer interviewed on TV said the Kilt has only been open a few weeks and they've already had 10 calls to the place. Those are dings against their liquor license so they'd better get a handle on it. They're also near residential and the neighbors will start raising cain before long. Cat..you just haven't been around a large group of gays partying if you think they don't get in fights. LOL...My favorite was working the crowning of the Queen of Kern County. The had a few hissing matches...lol. posted by

The nearby residents can take this for consolation. This story will keep me from going to the place. posted by

Nancy, if you take note of the last name of the 2 brothers arrested, that should answer your question. Honestly, is anyone surprised? That was the first thing I thought of when I saw the story. There are Hooters locations nationwide. I don't recall anything like this ever happening. posted by

It seems all "new" bars in Bako have the same problems in the beginning. RJ's had problems when they first opened. Chuy's on Rosedale had problems and at times still has problems. The Tilted Kilt will have problems and they might not go away, at least until Hooters opens up across the street from "Bikersfield". That should be an interesting mix. posted by

I have been to the TK 2 times now, with my husband. My first time there, I felt bad for the girls working there. I must be getting old(er)! I don't think they have to dress like that to attract customers. I think this place is a nice bar/restaurant and I would still go back. Of course, add Alcohol and scantly clad girls and you will have some drunk and disrespectful dirt bags who don't understand "rules" and "boundaries". Their mama didn't raise them right : ( As far as using knives to fight. Most people don't "fight" anymore. It usually involves a weapon of some kind. posted by

Just another reason you can't open places like The Tilted Kilt and Hooters in Bakersfield. Apparently, we residents just don't know how to control ourselves ;) posted by

It's fine to open them, just not in a residential family shopping area. Chuy's does well because it's out by the street and doesn't really affect shoppers. Nothings really changed since my barhopping days other than the time mentioned above. When a new place opens they get bombarded by people who want to see and be seen. When the next one opens, TK will thin out while the patrons go check it out. No one wants to go where no one goes. It's the herd mentality and the meat market mentality. Don't feel sorry for the girls they hire for having to wear those clothes. They probably cover more than their street clothes do. Why else would young girls wear tops with their boobs hanging out if they didn't want to show them off? How much better to get paid AND show them off? posted by

Tilted Kilt, Hooters, RJ's, Chuy's. I'll stick to The Red Pepper. No tank tops or Raider fans allowed in there. posted by

I go to Chuy's every Wed. nite for bike nite and haven't seen a fight there in five years. Trout's and the bars in the 'Dale get bad raps for their crowds, but I haven't seen a fight at any of those bars in many years either. When fights have broken out over there there are no knives or buddy jumps, and many times, the two involved end up back inside buying each other a drink. Maybe I should start carrying a gun again. You know what they say.."If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck"! I feel safe at Chuy's or any bar in Oildale, but I will not go downtown and engage the 20 something gym jumpers who have no idea what a one on one fight is nor will I hit a bar on the east side where the Mexicans stare me down for having the gall to come into THEIR place! And they have the audacity to call ME a racist! I haven't been to the Tilted Kilt and I don't plan on going, but I AM anxious to see what Bako has to offer when the Hooters opens up! posted by

I saw an episode of Gunsmoke on TV Land the other day. Sam the bartender had a double-barreled shotgun behind the bar. posted by

Three of my friends and myself were at the Twisted Kilt or whatever a week ago and we were jumped at the bar. We had only been there for about 45 minutes when some steroided jerk cheap shotted my friend. The rest of us got caught up in the melee, trying to help our friend while defending ourselves from this guy and about five of his cronies AND getting tossed around by the bouncers. So the bouncers toss us out as if we were the ones causing the trouble. Then they allowed those other guys to follow us out to the parking lot and attack us again. Thanks bouncers. I've seen this particular group of jerkwads out before causing trouble at the Mint downtown. Say what you will about the Mint, and it has seen it's share of brawls, this kind of crap doesn't really go down there the way it seems to at places like the Kilt, RJ's, Randolph's, etc. Anyhow, these jackass' MO is to send in one of their girlfriends to stir up trouble with whomever they are looking to start a fight with. For instance, one of their broads was talking to my friend, who got suckerpunched, and was trying to flirt or get his name and asked where he was from etc. We found out that she then went and told her crew that my friend pushed her or whatever and that was all they needed and it was on. We also found out later that they were some white power guys and that's what they do, look for reasons to try out their steroids. So those are the kinds of people the Twisted Quilt seems to allow to run their place and with enough time and incidents like what happened to us, they'll run it into the ground. Anybody remember Spike's downtown? Same thing. As for those idiots who jumped us and others like them...you're not even from the ghetto so quit acting ghetto. Go pull that crap in the real ghetto and see what happens. It's lame and a bit sad that going to places like the Kilt and getting hammered seems to be all the majority of Bakersfield people really know. We're a big city that still acts like a hick town. Go on out there and see for yourselves. Hopefully you won't get jumped...

And this just goes to show you, violence isn't just on one side of town, its all over when idiotic, alcohol hammering Bakersfield natives are running amuck. Grow up people! posted by
