Use cell phone while driving. Get ticket. Use cell phone to tell buddies
20,000? We saw half that many on our commute to work this morning! CHP officials say they have issued more than 20,000 tickets over three months to drivers breaking the law by using a hand-held cell phone while driving. 1,500 of those were issued in the stretch of highways from Modesto to Bakersfield. From driving around town it's quite clear Bakersfield drivers just don't give a hoot about the law, but after yesterday's rant about drinking and driving, we're all done with tirades for a day or two. 10 comments from 9 users

Every day I see folks who still use their handheld phones while driving. Most of the law breakers I see are female. What makes these phone calls so important that they have to break the law? If your phone rings while you are driving PULL OVER and stop to answer it. Or you could let your passenger answer it. My sister had her minivan totaled on the freeway when a driver rear ended it doing over 50 MPH because that driver was too busy with her phone to notice that traffic had slowed because of an earlier wreck. Do any of you bloggers have any cell phone related wreak stories? posted by

I once did a survey on my own about a year ago. I counted 43 women out of 50 people on cell phones while driving their cars. I have witnessed a woman knock over a man in a wheel chair while in a cross walk, and she knocked him out of his chair, and had the nerve to stay on the phone, as she drove off. Thank God a cop was across the street and witnessed the entire event. About a month later, I saw a woman on the phone while backing up to a gas pump, she proceeded to knock over the entire pump as gas went shooting 50 feet in the air. When I lost two of my nephew to a car accident in which they were hit while sitting in the back seat of a car, a woman on the cell while trying to light a cigarette going approximately 45 mph, she killed them, as her car slammed into the rear seat of those two little boys car seats. Believe me, you women are NOT that important to be talking on the phone just to find out what your friend is wearing to work tomorrow. So I took it upon myself to do something about this before the law came into affect. If I was in front of a car and looking in my rear view mirror, noticing a woman on the phone, when the light turned green, I didn't move, I waited until the light turned yellow counted to three, and then left, leaving her behind to wait again for another green light. Sure I got honked at, I just laughed while driving away. I have even left notes on cars of people who were on the phone while driving. I am beginning to think that all women coming out of their mothers womb, now have a cell phone attached to their ears, it is unbelievable to watch a girl check her cell phone every 2 minutes to see if she has missed anything. No wonder your gender is wired all wrong. posted by

Well, culver, you're not sexist, are you? Got news for you; the moron who rear-ended me a few years ago, causing six grand damage to my truck and resulting in the neck injury that plagues me even now was talking on a cell phone at the time, and it was a MAN!!!! The cell-phone addict who ran my son into the freeway median last month on the 58 freeway was a MAN. On my way to work yesterday, some idiot was driving 25 mph in the freeway fast lane while texting on a cell phone. He backed up traffic and pissed a lot of people off, and he was a MAN, too! I have always despised seeing anyone on a cell phone while driving, regardless of their gender. I myself refuse to answer my phone while I am behind the wheel, and everyone who knows me understands this. And guess what? I am NOT a man! posted by

Driving while dumb has no gender boundaries. I've seen people do all sorts of things while driving... a man holding a cup of soup in one hand and a spoon in another (steering with his knees), women putting on makeup, men shaving, either gender reading maps (or books!), talking on the cell or texting.... It's not a gender thing at all. posted by

I haven't noticed anyone on their cell phones when I'm driving around, but then I don't have a habit of checking out the people in the cars next to me. Culvermoon--maybe you should keep your eyes on the road and less on the women drivers in the cars next to you. Your roving eyes could cause an accident. Haha! posted by

You think that's bad? Many female babies in the valley are already pregnant when they come out of the womb. I've been told that it saves time. posted by

(CVC 21451a). You are a lot of talk. posted by

I observed drivers when I worked at an office at California and Mohawk. While waiting for code to compile or some dataset to run, I'd watch the people at the intersection. All sorts of bad driving going on, regardless of gender. I'm sure if you go to one of the restaurants along Rosedale and get a window seat, you can observe all sorts of bad driving while enjoying a meal... as long as you don't wonder if someone can spin out and come through the wall at you for too long.
