Someone is 'out to get' Rosemary's!
Just noticed this Inside Guide review of Rosemary's, the ice cream place on F street: "I think someone is out to get us with these reviews. We try to provide the best and most comfortable experience we can. Come see for yourself and let us know personally what we can do better, thanks." That entreaty to Bakersfield's ice-cream loving public came (presumably from an employee) after some less-than-impressive reviews. Check out Rosemary's Inside Guide review here. 22 comments from 12 users

I don't go to an ice cream shop to eat lunch so I'm no judge on the food. The ice cream is fine, just overpriced in my opinion. Can't stand Coldstones. Overpriced and too creamy (almost butter) for me. Believe it or not, I've never had Dewars ice cream. Love Ben & Jerry's but too far away. Love Baskin Robbins but again, too far away. I'm stuck with Thrifty ice cream counter and McDonalds hot fudge sundae. posted by

For what it's worth I love Rosemary's. This place has the best Hot Fudge Sundays in town. I have never had a bad experience at Rosemary's. The staff has always been pleasant, and we have always been promptly served. Since we usually are there strictly for ice cream, return visits to our table for additional coffee or water from the wait staff almost never needs to happen. I do not understand where terms like "dirty" and "rude" come from in regards to this local establishment. Of course, I noticed one of the "reviewers" and have yet to see a positive comment from that source on these blogs. I feel for these local establishments, particularly in these depressing times when most of their business neighbors have closed due to the economy. If you want a great old timey atmosphere in pleasant surroundings, and some of the best ice cream in town you should check out this place on 28th and F Streets. posted by

nancy.... that comment is directed at the multiple reviews of the restaurants by members on this board who complain how expensive food is at restaurants...they all want cheap food, but then get bent when it is crappy food...what do you expect for so little money?? hell, even the price of dogfood has skyrockted in the last 6 months.... what i used to pay 14.99 a bag for is now north of 30 dollars a bag thats what i meant
BTW..thrifty's cotton candy ice cream is to DIE for ....mmmmmmmmmmmmmm posted by

Learnem..gotcha..and I understand. Adam, finally we agree on something. The hot fudge at Rosemarys is GREAT. Some just tastes like it's warmed up chocolate syrup but what makes a hot fudge sundae outstanding is more the fudge than the ice cream. Ditto on the drinks. I never require much when I'm on an ice cream binge. posted by

My hubby is a Schwan's guy, so we get a cut rate. No reason to go out for ice cream. But I have been to Rosemary's before, and Dewar's, and I thought they were both very good. Thrifty's is also good. But if I buy anything but Schwan's I am a traitor, and besides, they are great! My favorites are the Dulce de Leche and the Raspberry Rumble...YUMMY! posted by

Although I really like Rosemary's, I only visit the place a few times a year. Their prices are not low... but not so high that I can't afford to take my family there once in a while as a "special treat". posted by

You can't front on Rosemary's Strawberry Shortcake and a chili-dog, come on now!! Plus, it's always packed with the after church crowd too, so they gotta have God on their side.... Amen.

I haven't been to Rosemary's or Dewars in a long time. I live on the other side of town. I'd hate to see either go out of business; both are historic establishments. I could nit-pick the service, price, and so on but that's forgotten when that yummy decadent sundae or banana split is put in front of me. Makes gluttony a virtue. posted by

I've never had ice cream at Rosemary's. It's a sanitation issue. Probably unfair, because it happened to someone else about 25 years ago. (P.S. I never forget food horror stories) posted by

By the way, I don't give the Californian much credibility for restaurant reviews. They can knock an ice cream parlor but sing praises of a titty bar. Doesn't take a whole lot of pondering to figure which place Californian food critics would rather be. posted by

Just as a point of clarification, The Bakersfield Californian's sole restaurant critic is columnist Pete Tittl. Bakersfield.com's Inside Guide is populated by first-person reviews by customers and community members--anyone with a B.com account can post reviews on the Inisde Guide.
