"Streets of Bakersfield" like you've never seen it before

There are good things about the Internet -- and there are bad things.

Buck, Billo and Maxi's video performance of "Streets of Bakersfield" is weird, lifeless and kinda creepy.

The trio uses a photo of the famous Fun, Sun, Stay, Play sign as backdrop for a performance in which to stumble through the words and music, all the while seemingly wearing cement boots to prevent any physical exertion.

But the lamest part is the performers spend the entire song looking offscreen, presumably to a karaoke machine showing the lyrics (although it could be a gunman out of view, because their performance looks like it was against their will). Billo, looking clueless as he hunts for the right chords, mouths a few words here and there, often off the beat.

"Buck" closes this adventure by telling us that Dwight Yoakam -- who performed a duet with Buck Owens' on a remake of the song -- was in fact from Bakersfield. Really. Um, not so fast, Bucko. Yoakam was from Kentucky and later of LA. He visited here a lot and loved the Bakersfield Sound, but never lived here.

If you love this crud, there are 100 other interpretations of country songs on their YouTube channel. But don't say we didn't warn you.

Not to worry.  A real Bakersfield Sound revival is in the works, the evidence being here:

http://www.bakersfieldsound...

here:

http://www.bakersfieldandbe...

and here, the radio station with the only radio show where you'll hear both old Bakersfield sound classics, and songs by new artists, many from Bakersfield, grounded in that original Bakersfield sound:

http://www.kwmr.org

The show is every second Thursday, next one being August 6 from 6:40 pm to 8:30 pm.

The Country Bear Jamboree in Disneyland was more lifelike!
