Pedro Martinez taken back to his Bakersfield Dodger days
Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Pedro Martinez on Saturday was taken back in time to his days in Bakersfield when an unidentified friend from Southern California gave him a memento from his days as a Bakersfield Dodger. That memento, according to Delaware Online blogger Scott Lauber, was a baseball signed by the 1991 Bakersfield Dodgers, a team that also included fellow Major Leaguers Mike Piazza and Raul Mondesi. That's pretty good company. Martinez, who is pitching against the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series, thrived in Bakersfield but never found a groove in Los Angeles, LA later traded him, and he achieved greatness elsewhere. Now, nearly 20 years after his stint in Bakersfield, he's looking to beat the Dodgers for a small bit of revenge. As Lauber writes, the signed baseball served "as one of many reminders of what could've been." 4 comments from 3 users

By 2016 be sure to watch my grandson to be pitching in the majors :-) He is 15yrs old, 6' 1", pitches a fast ball at 80mph, nobody last year could hit his sinker ball, was the only HS Freshman pitcher to have pitched 2 no hitters last year. Right now he is looking toward a full ride scholarship to college then does hope to play in the majors. posted by

The Dodgers made a big mistake by trading him to Montreal. They were enamored with his brother Ramon at the time. Hindsight is 20/20. posted by

Witterpitters, Pls help your grandson to care for his throwing arm. He is throwing hard for one so young. Pls ask you doctor how he can maintain an injury free arm during his baseball years. There are 'tricks of the trade', but best to get from your Doc. posted by

MANNYB1: My grandson lives in Virginia and he has a pitching coach (a former MLB pitcher), hitting coach, physical fitness trainer and a mom and dad who are totally on top of the situation! Fortunately, even at the HS level, they can only throw so many pitches a game and since he is good enough to strike out almost all of the hitters, he actually throws less pitches then any other pitcher!!! He cannot pitch every game and then will be in the outfield - plays left field - or 3rd base. He is pretty much an all around player. His dad made sure he didn't focus on just one position as we all know that limits your options. So, if he doesn't get picked up as a pitcher, he can play outfield or infield equally well. Thank you for your concern and advise :-)
