LA Times reports on Delano / McFarland Gangs. Thoughts?

Today's LA Times' (2-24-08) features a story on Delano and McFarland's gang problem - but no mention of Bakersfield. What do you think about the story? What do you think about Bakersfield's gang troubles?

What do we small towns expect when we buy up the farmland and put houses on it and openly invite the LA/San Fran people here?

Bakersfield/Shafter/Wasco/Arvin/Lamont/Delano were all fairly nice towns to grow up in - not any more.  We are no longer the nice dairy/ag/cattle towns of the 40's-50's & 60's.  We are now LA North and San Fran South with all the dirt and garbage that goes with it.

Should have been careful what you wished for..........................you just got it.

That pretty much sums it up witter.  Add lack of disciplinary abilities in schools, the entitlement mentality, the glorification of the gang life and we end up with scum with no respect for life and they may be natives to Kern.

No mention of Bakersfield-I'll tell you why.  No big city or national media mentions Bakersfield unless something really bad happens here.  I don't know about the LA Times, but I know that TV networks like The Weather Channel never mention Bakersfield.

I didn't read the article, but there is less of a law enforcement presence in Delano/McFarland, so I can see why bangers are moving towards that area. There are four prisons in the area also, so they may want to be close enough to visit their family/friends.

There is a gang presence in Bako, obviously, but I think BPD does a very good job of keeping the lid on those idiots most of the time. There's a flare up every now and again, but for the most part gangsters do not want to be on the BPD radar.

I think this thread has gone bonkers as far as the borders are concerned. What happened?

Unfortunately, we are on a one way train ride with this drug gang growth, and if our old solutions don't work then why do we persist?
