Teachers are to Pedophiles as Morticians are to Necrophiliacs

To be at the point where I'm nonplussed by allegations of sexual misconduct by a teacher is a sad state of affairs. The faculty I work with seems like a group of good people, quirky but decent.  However if one of them were to be hauled away for sending illicit photographs to a minor or passing notes during an exam, would I be soul-searchingly shocked? No.  It has become that present in our society, the breaking of professional roles and boundaries.

Blind Item:

Dinner at Toro at the Marketplace. Over cocktails and sushi, my best friend (a lawyer at a prominent firm), his fiancee and our medical student friend, are discussing a teacher recently discovered to have crossed these professional boundaries. As a sidenote, three of us attended Garces Memorial and have our own insight on the issue.  Several things were discussed.

1. No one was surprised.

2. It is alleged that said teacher has trichotillomania; the condition of excessively pulling out your own hair and eyebrow.

3. Med student friend mentioned that trichotillomania is often accompanied by pika, which is the condition of putting inedible objects in your mouth.

4. There has to be more credence given when everyone gets a weird feeling from someone.  It has to be a natural defense.

A tutor assisting one of the courses I teach had this dubious teacher herself.  She confirmed her own suspicions of trichotillomania and pika. It's an interesting situation, reading about the wolf that is currently being prosecuted and having known all along something was not quite right. It's not self satisfaction but its something close; more akin to guessing the killer in the movie and finding out you were right.

I don't recall a band teacher but might have happened after I graduated. I was there from 96-2000. There was an English teacher "excused" for buying beer for minors and offering to hang out with them in a friendly way.

I do have to say though, I would send my kids to Garces in a second. I had a fantastic school experience there, regardless of any individual craziness from specific incidences. John Fanucchi is one of the best examples of how a man should conduct himself I have ever seen.

BakersfieldDoc.  And what would be the reason for all the inappropiate behavior by teachers all over the country for all manner of offenses from making meth to having an affair and having their baby?  But lets ignore the fact that they were just pond scum, it's much more fun to blame it on Catholicism.  Geeezze..now THAT'S reaching.

Even in the 60's at BHS there were 'strange' teachers. Had an English teacher (who also taught Sunday school) who would put the girls with tight sweaters and skirts in the front row.  There were PE teachers who were quite obviously 'different'!  What was a real scream, there was a dance teacher who was 'straight' and was fired because the school board found out she was living with her boyfriend!  Thought she would be a 'bad influence' on we girls! Hell we didn't even know until the school made a big issue of it!  The other female teachers, who, shall we say, were not straight and lived with each other (they were 'roommates') was A-ok!!! go figure!  I will say, I never heard of ANY of they going after a student.

Back in "the day" it was no big deal for a female teacher to "befriend" a male student.

In fact, the boy who was lucky enough to earn close personal attention from his female teacher was revered by his envious peers.

A guy who scored a teacher was thereafter considered an icon.

A pleased father was proud that a son achieved such a highly regarded rite of passage and secretly wished he could get a little of the instruction for himself.

Mother might roll her eyes disgustedly at both and the incident was relegated to the annals of family lore.

There was no talk of sexual abuse.

Pedophilia? You gotta be kidding!

But conversely, if a male teacher even gazed appreciatively at the anatomy of an innocent female student he was deemed a lecher at best and soon might find himself at the very least unceremoniously drummed out of the corps. If he touched her he might be found growing from the old oak tree.

Male teacher/male student, female teacher/female student? Get the rope!

Today, however, a female teacher bestowing sexual favors upon a male student has become a big nono. The woman gets fired and jailed, the poor boy is counseled for the psychological damage and emotional scars inflicted upon him by the predatory woman.

What happened?

Why is it you never hear about how a man's life was destroyed after getting laid by his hot high school history teacher for whom he lusted?

Just askin.
