Fellow Believers who are Bloggers: Let us gather in prayer for peace in the blogosphere

To keep the peace on the Bakersfield.com blogosphere, I recommend praying before blogging, or at least adopting a prayerful attitude.   I recommend this for myself as I do for others who are believing bloggers, for when I have blogged without first praying, or without first adopting an attitude of prayer, my blogs have not always been blessed.

This is a prayer I'll offer, but I'd encourage you to develop one that fits your own personality and reflects where you are in your own personal spiritual journey:

Dear God, as I blog here today, give me words of peace and reconciliation.  If there be any hate for my blogging brothers and sisters in my heart, pull that hate out by the roots and fill me with only your love and your light.  Let me avoid avenues of darkness, but if darkness comes to me as I enter, let me fill that darkness with light.

Fill me with your spirit of love, peace, joy and optimism so that I might build this community, and never let me be apart of tearing it down, or tearing down anyone who blogs or visits here.  In Jesus name, Amen.

If you are not a believer, then I'd recommend affirmations that guide you away from the use of abusive, hateful, demeaning, mocking and otherwise divisive language and towards a language of goodness, grace, love and reconciliation.

Go in peace, and blog on!

I'm sure buffojournerwafer7 will change his ways and quit posting his hate against homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons if you show up on his doorstop on bended knee, clasping your hands.

When the Bakersfield Californian's blogs are sanitized into goodness, grace, love and reconciliation, they will be as boring as spending Sunday mornings in a pew. Until that day arrives, though, they will draw people to the site for a lively discussion.

btw, Your prayer is pathetic.

Nice prayer, Bruce.

I guess blogging for some should really be called "bitching." It has become home to many impotent 40 year olds living in their mothers basement. Many haven't the confidence or brain power to hold an intelligent conversation when they are more than two clicks away from Wikipedia.

I will continue to pray for them and myself.

I'm sure buffojournerwafer7 will change his ways

Unfortunately, or fortunately, in some cases, we, as human beings, lack the power to change another person.  That can be extremely frustrating.  We can only change ourselves, which is a task that often feels impossible.

That's why, to a large extent, I'm leaving the task up to God.

As far as the notion that a peaceful blog community is a boring one is concerned, one thing I've often learned the hard way is that excitement isn't just excitement.  It's also stress, and, in some cases, excitement turn into absolute emotional hell.

Great comment, witbee.  Your determination to remain prayerful will pay off.

Buffoo's showing *SOME* signs of obtaining a clue.  Perhaps the nonexistent God works in mysterious ways.

posted by Wayfarer on Feb 29, 2008 at 12:40 PM

You heard it hear first folks.  Random has acknowledged the value of prayer.  So keep praying for all of us as everyone has some rough edges that we need God to smooth off.

posted by blognroll on Feb 29, 2008 at 12:59 PM

Amen to that.  And if you're not ready to acknowledge the existence of a God, and, therefore, not inclined to pray, then make a promise to yourself that you're going to fill the blogosphere with good will, and postive energy, not with cheap shots, put-downs and recklessly delivered insults.

...and don't fill it with religious spam every day for 11 straight months.

posted by Wayfarer on Feb 29, 2008 at 01:47 PM

I apologize to Robby for trying to spread a message of peace, love, brotherhood, self control or any other values that offend his sensitive eyes.  Plus I promise more to come in the future.

posted by robbwillis on Feb 29, 2008 at 02:02 PM

Tell us again, buffojournerwafer7, how "homosexuality is a disease", "Jehovah's Witnesses are a cult" and the "Mormons are sheep in wolves' clothing." I want to feel that "love" again. More coming in the future? Guess we can all praise God that your "love" has no depth it will not plumb.

posted by Wayfarer on Feb 29, 2008 at 02:06 PM

Sorry Robby, I am neither the cause nor the cure of your personal problems.  You are going to have to stop blaming me and learn to deal with them yourself.

posted by robbwillis on Feb 29, 2008 at 02:17 PM

Stop blaming you for what you've said? Your deepseated hatred for those that don't share your whacked-out religious beliefs can't be masked by your holier-than-thou psychosis. You don't fool anyone, real or imaginary,  with your daily cut-and-paste spam. Far from it; it's exposed like a compound fracture.

As you can see folks, reconciliation is a process.  Sometimes it can take years to come into fruition.  I hope it doesn't take years in this case.  What I can say is that reconciliation doesn't come by trying to change the other person or that person's blog.

It comes from changing your attitude towards that person, even if you cannot change your attitude towards that person's blog.

To be perfectly honest, I to not feel an attitude of love coming from either one of you as it pertains to the back-and-forth blows.  The hardest thing in the world is to return hate with love.  But that is what is required for reconciliation to begin.

posted by robbwillis on Feb 29, 2008 at 03:43 PM

As an atheist, back-and-forth blows, love vs hate, hate vs love , etc, etc, are of no concern to my self image. However, for someone to spam this site for 11 straight months with religious garbage and have the nerve to claim he's a loving Christian while clearly hating homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses and now Mormons, that sets new heights in hypocrisy. He's also a proven bald-faced liar.

If you want to love a total jerk like that, schmooze away.

posted by blognroll on Feb 29, 2008 at 04:13 PM

Like I said folks, sometimes reconciliation can take years.  robbwillis, I believe that whether you are a Christian, an atheist, or an agnostic, letting go of your desire to change someone, or that person's blog and letting go of the resentment will, in the long run, be less stressful for you.

Have I always gotten along with everybody here?  It would be a lie if I said I had.  I tried to reconcile with the person I offended, but that person wasn't prepared to enter that reconciliation process, and refused all of the olive branches I extended.  I believe that person is worse off for it.

I like your idea, blognroll, and your prayer.

To robb -- Why are you so hell-bent on criticizing the Christian person who puts up a daily blog?  Where is your criticism of the real estate guy who puts as many as three or four a day on the blogs?  And then there are the people who are trying to sell stuff here -- no criticism by you.  Money Talks has been bombarding us with blogs lately.  Where's your outrage?  By definition, your daily blog responses to the Christian add just as much clutter as his, so you are just like him in that respect.

What it boils down to is you don't like the Christian's message, so you have singled out that particular blogger.  Fine.  You are entitled to have your opinion about the blogger's message.  But why don't you quit being a hypocrite about what you say he's doing, when you are doing the same thing yourself?

Thanks, I appreciate your comments, theColorNine.  What do you think robb, does the ColorNine have a point here?

posted by robbwillis on Feb 29, 2008 at 05:02 PM

Stress? What's that?

Ok, bring on the realestate guy. As for doing the same thing, mine are in retaliation. But I don't mind you calling me a hypocrite after all the names I've been called here by our "loving" saint and martyr, buffojournerwafer7. In fact, he would advise you not to click on anything I post.

Thank you for noticing my clutter adds to his clutter. My message has reached you.

"My message has reached you."

Well, no , robb, it hasn't.  To be honest, I don't read either your retalitory blogs or sojourner7's blogs on that topic.  It is not difficult for me to pass over those blogs in which I have no interest or those which I expect to be very predictable in their content.  I can't speak for others, but those kinds of blogs don't serve up much in interest or mature discourse to me.

BLT  Thats a good word Bro. The difference is night and day for me, if I invite The Lord to help me blog and comment - or not.

posted by blognroll on Mar 1, 2008 at 05:55 AM

Thanks.  It's great to hear that, dcs217.  It seems like whether or not I invite God to be part of anything I'm doing seems to make all the difference in the world for me.

What I get from what theColorNine is saying is that if you don't like someone's blog, rather than getting caught up in trying to change that person or his/her blog, it's better just to move on and find a blog that interests you.

As far as the back and forth attacks are concerned (and I haven't witnessed all that has gone on so I'm not going to assign blame either way), I've found that once things have reached a certain level in terms of negativity, it's best to just find a way to disengage, and move on rather than repeating the cycle of negative, often hurtful exchanges.

When you post a thread basically calling somebody a liar, no matter what that person has done or said to you, it's not really the road to reconciliation I would recommend.

posted by robbwillis on Mar 1, 2008 at 10:07 AM

Everyone here, except for the liar buffojournerwafer7, seems pretty sincere. I'll tell you what: ffoobbaarroo will retire and no longer retaliate against buffojournerwafer7's daily onslaught of religious spam if one sincere person shows up on ffoobbaarroo's next post to thoughtfully condemn buffojournerwafer7 for the cretin he is. I'll put this offer in its own post.

You should know BLT that it takes two for reconciliation and you can't help some one who doesn't want it.  The way I see matters is simple.  I post the Good News for those who are ready to receive it.  Robby has a need to attack others and he has chosen me as a target because for some reason he has a irrational hatred of Christ.  I as a Christian am enjoined to get along with my neighbors as much as I can.  If I stopped posting the Good News and I am not about to deny my God or stop offering help in the Lords name.  Then Robby would still be miserable and would just find another reason to attack me or others.  So the solution seems simple to me.  I will continue to do my thing which includes prayer for those who persecute me. And maybe Robby will eventually learn through the grace of God to deal with his own problems.

As I have commented in the past; the blog spere is a community and it takes individual and community action to police it.  Some individuals get their kicks by attacking others and it is up to the community to not accept that behavior.  I delete any such comments from my blogs and now since it has become common place for a few bad apples to post personal attacks; I will also make good use of the "Report Violation"  button.  Since I have been guilty myself of insulting others.  Please accept my apology for my personal short comings and help work with all of us to make this community a positive place.

In other words, Buffoo's unwilling to act like a Christian but wants to be forgiven for it anyway.

posted by robbwillis on Mar 1, 2008 at 10:50 AM

Buffojournerwafer7 likes to think it's about Christ because he thinks he can hide his hatred for others there. Jesus wouldn't have anything to do with a hypocrite like you, which is a good thing because nobody in his or her right mind would want to spend an eternity within a lightyear of you. If you got let in, there would be a Heavenly stampede to Hell.

So post your garbage-of-the-day spam and let's see if anyone will take the deal.

posted by blognroll on Mar 1, 2008 at 11:19 PM

What most people don't realize is that Christians don't get to heaven by being good.  It is on the basis of the righteousness of Jesus, not on the basis of our own righteousness that we get into heaven.  That is not to say that we should not strive to do better, but:

You Gotta Be Bad
