BAKERSFIELD SOUNDoff: What side of Merle Haggard's politics are you on?
You might say I'm driving down the right lane, facing traffic with this song, an answer to Merle Haggard's song about Hillary? What side of the street are you on when it comes to Merle's political views----the side he introduced when he wrote, recorded and released The Fightin' Side of Me, or the views he has expressed more recently when he wrote, recorded and released Hillary.... http://thecaucus.blogs.nyti... or when he expressed, in the press, his criticism of George W. Bush and his open consideration of Obama as a viable and presidential candidate?
In the game of blog n roll, I provide the tunes and introduce the topic. You provide the comments. It's as simple as that. Are you ready? Set? BLOG n ROLL! 4 comments from 3 users

Merle's political positions make no difference to me. I would say he should shut up and sing, but since he is isnging about Hillary it wouldn't matter. Unless he just sang Marie Laveaux...... posted by

More musicians probably should do just what you've suggested as most really don't understand the subject matter of which they speak. On the other hand, I think telling Merle Haggard to "shut up and sing," would probably bring similar results to telling the Dixie Chicks the same thing. He'd probably write a song about it, and win a Grammy for it. posted by

Yes, everybody has that right, thank God, sagefever. But it's in the best interest of the musician opening his/her mouth to express his/her own political views, to express those views gracefully, intelligently, and in a way that is not divisive or offensive to the other side. I don't think Merle has been offensive. The Dixie Chicks have.
