No Guts No Glory: I'd like to ask this legend and this legend-in-the-making to finish this song

GOOD DAY!  Welcome to my new series, NO GUTS, NO GLORY.  It's a step-by-step (or in some cases, it will be misstep-by-misstep) guide to long shots I take on the oft-failure-ridden road to success as a singer/songwriter.

Today, I'm going to have the guts to ask Bakersfield's own legendary Bakersfield Sound artist from the Blackboard Cafe era, and Bakersfield's own legend-in-the-making, Hank Ray, to complete this song by Lloyd adding a verse that answers the first, and by Hank Ray adding a bridge.  What you're listening to here today, is a rough cut (mighty rough), recorded where it was written, right here in the BuckarooM.  It involves my part--the first verse and the chorus.

In the process of collaborating on the writing and recording of this song, Them Blackboard Days, I hope to provide a living example of the power of cross-generational mentoring and cross-generational collaboration in action.

Let's wait and see what happens.  This could lead to utter rejection, failure, and a conspicuous lack of glory.  Or, it could be a glorious adventure, from beginning to end.

NO GUTS, NO GLORY!

Peace!  Out!

There is an alternative mindset that has been employed by many over the years:

I MAY BE YELLA BUT I'M STILL ALIVE

Yes, I'm aware of that mindset, and, in the past, I've taken comfort in that very mindset.  After so many bumps and bruises, I may actually find myself retreating to that safe place resembling a mother's womb.  As for now, I'm prepared for the anguish, the rejection, the abysmal failure, the ridicule and whatever else fate might have in store for me.

When I was a young man, I had that gooey romantic mindset where I told myself that I'd take a bullet rather than let my lady fair be harmed. Glad I'm over that phase...

It's never too late to re-adopt that "gooey romantic" mindset.  On the other hand, in the end, I may discover that I've been spinning my wheels and throwing mud in my face the whole time.

It takes years and tons of perserverance.  And a hell of a lot of luck.

You're absolutely, right, Nancy.  There are very few overnight sensations.  Great links, and thanks for educating me on someone that actually has roots in Bakersfield.
