Goin' Postal for Buck: another new song about the new Buck Owens stamp in the works

Welcome to my Lyric today/Hear it Tomorrow blog series.  I'm Dr. BLT and I'll be your host and featured singer/songwriter.

Next Tuesday we'll all be celebrating Buck's birthday, beginning with a ceremony over at what will be the Buck Owens post office in Oildale with the release of a brand new Buck Owens stamp.  I've already written and partially recorded one song I plan to use to gain charitable funds around a cause Buck would support.  That one was called Love Letter with a Buck Stamp on It.

This one is called...

Goin' Postal for Buck

words and music by Dr BLT copyright 2008 AmeriKERNa Music

I've been missin' Buck

since the day that he was gone

I miss the way he sang and played

I miss his country songs

when I heard they made a stamp of him

to be released next week they say

I said I'm goin' postal

for Buck Owens on that day

chorus:

goin' postal for Buck

goin' mad

but in a good way

gonna buy hundreds of stamps

and put his face upon my letters

goin' postal for Buck

goin' postal stamp ballistic

call me crazed but I am goin'

postal for Buck

I've got a few momentos

of this man that I admire

but I ain't got no stamps

and its Buck stamps I desire

they're gonna name an Oildale station

after him on Tuesday mornin'

I've got to be there just to fan the fire

(chorus)

For the life of me, I just can't seem to ever hear a melody to many of your "songs" in my cabeza when I read your lyrics, my man...

Just a suggestion - one time I saw this in San Fran...

A guy had a booth set-up to sing songs on the spot about a topic of your choice - for donations.

I think you may have a new profession on your hands BLT!

"BLT Tunes You Up - While You Wait!"

Think about it!

This one falls under the category of "Lyric today, hear it tomorrow," so there's no way to play it yet.   When I lived in Sacramento, a local cable TV station used to come over to where I hung out on the corner of 19th and J at Starbucks about once a week, approach me about writing a song on a particular topic, come back 10 minutes later, and have me sing and comment on the issue.

Daniel Belton, former Eye Street writer for the Bakersfield Californian once called me, in an article, "the fastest songwriter in the world."  I wasn't sure whether to take it as a compliment though because that speaks to the quantity, not necessarily the quality of the songs.  Having this many songs in my head is like having too many children.  You want to give each the proper care and attention, but you simply don't have time so some half to wander in the streets with no shoes on their feet.

Thanks for your comment!  Food for thought!

I had a camp counselor who used to sing songs on the spot about anything.

Of course as kids, we used to make him sings songs about boogers, and gross stuff for laughs....he was pretty amazing.

Cheers,

MmM
