Michael Jackson Dead at 50
The tragic fate of Farrah Fawcett, who died earlier today, will be overshadowed in the wake of the news that Michael Jackson died of an apparent heart attack. Share your memories, thoughts and reflections on the deaths of either or both of these two celebrities. We all know that Michael's life took a turn for the worse at some point, and he lost much of the respect he gained in the process. One of his big hits was "Beat it!" but whether he beat the legal system, or whether he was truly innocent of crimes against children remains a mystery in the minds of many. What remains undisputed is the immense talent that this one man possessed. His personal legacy may be tainted at best, but what a musical legacy he left behind. TMZ is so far officially the only one reporting this. We have looked at other sites and nothing yet. How terrible for the music industry! posted by

He's not officially dead yet. The only official word is that he was taken to UCLA Medical Center in full cardiac arrest. There's a press conference scheduled shortly though. KCAL9 has continuous coverage if any want to watch. posted by

His personal life aside- don't even need to go there, he is and/or was amazing talent. Can any of us say we don't know the words to Beat It, or Thriller? Older J5 stuff, I'll Be There. Wow. Kinda shocking. Grew up with him and his family. posted by

TMZ is so far officially the only one reporting this Faux News is also reporting it, and we know how little credibility they have. So we have a news show that won a lawsuit that says they can legally lie on the air and a gossip magazine saying he's dead and that's it.

No kidding, Sage. Here I was all depressed about poor Farrah, and now Michael Jackson. I just can't believe it. He seemed larger than life, and timeless. He is a true American icon, like Elvis and Elizabeth Taylor and Frank Sinatra. posted by

A terrible thing for the little boy that he was. I don't have any feelings about the freak he turned himself into. I agree with Blognroll, the tragedy is that his bizarre lifestyle will overshadow two people who were people you could admire. (Audrey's mention of Ed McMahon reminded me of his passing). Funny, with Ed I won't remember him so much as Johnny's sidekick but the guy who went around handing out checks. The bad thing about getting older is that you see so many pass. I don't complain though..I've lost too many friends who never had the change to grow older with me and I'm grateful for what I have. posted by

Considering how many times the news declared Pope John Paul II dead before he was, I'll wait for the official press conference. posted by

I think he just wore out. Very sad. His death today reminds me so much of when Elvis died in the summer of 1977. He was no longer king. What was the point? posted by

So true Audrey. He was amazing as a child, his singing ability and his dancing was awesome. It's a shame some stars just seem to be on a self destruct path. posted by

I have to say I like how CNN is handling this. Letting people know other news agencies have reported his death but that it has not been confirmed. And KCAL9 just got pre-empted by an informercial, at least on Brighthouse analog cable. posted by

I loved his music growing up in the 1980s. My older sister had his record, and we both thought he was cute (I was 5) and had a crush on him. He had it all. I couldn't take him seriously as a musician after his molestation trials. posted by

Audrey, it wouldn't surprise me. Drugs are very hard on the heart. Whatever his mental state was or what caused it may never be known and I know I probably shouldn't feel this way but he literally turned my stomach as an adult. If he had a mental condition, it certainly wasn't treated. From the stories I've read he had a hard life with his father and family. Child stars often suffer but so many have weathered it that I have little sympathy for those who use that as an excuse for what they become. Too much, too fast, with no proper foundation. A recipe for disaster. posted by

Man, his music ROCKS!!! I've been going on a Michael Jackson tour at Youtube. What's really amazing about his music is that, were these songs to come out today, they would still be hits. They've got great beats and better hooks than a lot of the dance music today. Which probably explains why he's still on heavy rotoation at the clubs in New York and Hollywood. LA Coroner just came on CNN and confirmed the death. Although the time of death he gave was 15 minutes AFTER TMZ posted their story, so there was some tom-foolery going on with the press on this one or the coroner said the wrong time during the phone interview. Advertisement |
