What's your secret to staying cool in Bakersfield?
Fill 'er up, it's a lot less expensive than filling up with gas, or buying a real cement pond. Once you get past the embarrassment of being called a redneck by a few highfalutin city folk, sitting in your very own pick-up/pool is a great way to beat the heat. While you're at it, you may want to download my new song, scheduled for release on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at my official website: (hit music, and head for songs from the CD, From Buck Owens Blvd. to Merle Haggard Drive). Then crank it from the cab of your pick-up/pool. After a day in the pick-up/pool listening to the song over and over again, critique it at my website. The release announcement and a sample will be available tomorrow also at: BSU (Bakersfield Sound Underground) http://www.bakersfieldsound...

Have you got any other tips for cooling off in Bakersfield, like the tips I've introduced with these photos. If so, share them here. posted by

I love their style! As for me, reclining on my swing under a canopy of trees. The revolving fan is blowing air over me while I eat peaches and cottage cheese and drink ice water. Also I'm reading World War Z. posted by

LOL BLT! Those pictures are awesome! I'm staying cool by cleaning my house. I know it sounds counter-intuitive to do physical labor when it's hot, but it just seems to me that my house looks cooler when it's clean, and so I feel cooler when my house is organized. Also--I'm drinking lots of iced tea. posted by

s810, you must not be watching KGET news to see all the people whining about their electric bill because they used their A/C during the July heat waves. posted by

Close the shades--set your A/C at 78 and use fans to circulate to cool air throughout the place.... An ice cold tomato beer also helps----works for the LING............ posted by
