Welcome to the all new BLOGame TM series, Nu Bako Sound Trivia Quest TM.   It's like Bakersfield sound Trivia Quest TM, except it deals with rising artists that are opening themselves up to the influence of the Bakersfield sound genre, while carving out a style of their own.  You've probably already figured out the question, as it's secretly been incorporated into the title of this blog.  But can you identify the answer?  The winner will receive a randomly...

First, let me identify the studio.  This started out to be a theatre, then it became the Buck Owens recording studios.  Later it evolved into first Fat Tracks, and then Pig Studios.  Now...

"An intimate atmosphere prevailed at the Blackboard despite the large crowds it attracted.  The Blackboard was a place where everybody knew everybody, and this included the convivial cocktail waitresses who established a camaraderie with their customers, and shared with them in the fun." Kathryn Burke, The Dust Bowl, the Bakersfield Sound and BUCK.  Now, for the question, restated:  What is the author, Kathryn Burke referring to in this quote from her book on...

Welcome to Bakersfield soundOFF, where new topics on the old and nu Bakersfield sound are introduced and hashed out.  I'm Dr. BLT, and I'll be your humble host.  Today's subject is contained in the subject line of this blog.  It's plain and simple.  For those unfamiliar with the Nu Bako sound, it's a term I coined to depict a burgeoning, heretofore inchoate movement among new generations of local artists, and others influenced by the Bakersfield sound, as it was in...

For those still in the dark about the Nu Bako sound, it's an evolving new genre, rooted in the original Bakersfield sound, and flavored with various alt rock, hick-hop, Bako blues, Kern County country rock, and modern folk rock genres of today. It's not an established genre, it's not a genre in it's own right.  It's simply an experiment in sound that pays tribute to the great artists of the Bakersfield sound heyday.  Sample the nu Bako sound and the new Dr.  BLT song, More...

...And the song will contain a secret to Buck Owen's success---a secret that is timeless as a psychological strategy for surviving, and even, to some extent, thriving in this recession.  Get ready to go underground.  If you ain't goin' underground, you ain't going nowhere!

Nirvana was all about breaking new ground, breaking old genres and boldly being themselves.  Sound familiar?  Bakersfield sound familiar?  Hello?  Do I hear Buck Owens, anyone? I never met Curt Cobain, but I met his now widowed wife, Courtney Love, and shook her hand.  She did something most artists would never do.  She and Don Henley have each accepted a copy of my lyrics without first running it by a record producer, agent, or handler of any kind. ...

Welcome to Bakersfield sound Trivia Quest.  I'm Dr. BLT, and I'll be your host.   There are a total of 5.  There are two country legends, one a solo artist, and one a star in bands that used to entertain the masses at the Blackboard.  One is one of the greatest steel guitar players of the Bakersfield sound genre, including yesterday and today.  There's a music mogul who doubles as a mover and a shaker of the Bakersfield sound generation-bridging movement, and...
