Dare I draw such a comparison?  Well, perhaps they haven't spawned quite the string of superstars and pioneers as The Cousin Herb Henson Trading Post, but the show is still young, just a few months of age to be exact.  They've already introduced local artists like Meestro, The Witchitas, and Penny Marie to Marin County, and to the world, via their internet stream... http://www.kwmr.org And they've paid a more convincing tribute to the grand pioneers of the first generation...

There's a rhyme and a reason behind the Bakersfield Sound.  Just read Jeff Nickell and Sarah Woodman's newly released book (mine's autographed), Hard Drivin' Country.  But is there a science?  To find out, you'll need to go underground.  BSU (Bakersfield Sound Underground) http://www.drblt.net/music/ or you'll need to come alive: Psychology Comes Alive http://www.psychologycomesa... Be sure to listen to this public radio's modern-day answer to the...

In July, there was a lot of interest in this song and a lot of buzz, but since we're now in the midst of our second major cooling trend in Bakersfield, I fear interest will wane and song will need to be shelved until next summer.  What do you think? This is from my forthcoming CD, From Buck Owens Blvd. to Merle Haggard Drive: http://www.drblt.net credits: vocals; rhythm guitar: Dr BLT drums: Pat Frase, Dr BLT bass; electric guitar lead: Reggie Langendorfer

How many can you name?  If you can name them all, win your choice of the country remake of Billie Jean, featuring Penny Marie and Kim McAbee, or the latest song that me and Mark Yeary are working on, the title track from the forthcoming CD, From Buck Owens Blvd. to Merle Haggard Drive.

It's been a long time since country music celebrated a non-dominant country music culture quite this boldly.  That hasn't since Buck Owens and Dwight Yoakam released their arrangement of a Homer Joy song called Streets of Bakersfield.  George Strait boldly embraces Mexican-American culture in this song: http://www.the9513.com/geor... I'll all for artists boldly borrowing from various cultures and turning to cultures non-dominate in a particular...

I shot the sheriff but I did not shot the deputy.... lyrical confession by Eric Clapton Over the years, we've gone from the relatively benign confession on Folsom Prison Blues, when Johnny Cash announced, "I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die," to lyrics specifically singling out specific officers as top "contenders" at the very top of one hostile rappers list of police to kill.   Where does freedom of speech begin...

Fill 'er up, it's a lot less expensive than filling up with gas, or buying a real cement pond.  Once you get past the embarrassment of being called a redneck by a few highfalutin city folk, sitting in your very own pick-up/pool is a great way to beat the heat.  While you're at it, you may want to download my new song, scheduled for release on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at my official website: http://www.drblt.net (hit music, and head for songs from the CD, From Buck Owens...
There's never enough room on the subject line.  What I meant to say was that my wife, my daughter and I had a fun-filled week-end, thanks to a couple of co-hosts from the Marin-county-based KWMR radio show, Bakersfield and Beyond, grabbed their significant others and made the pilgrimage to Bakersfield for a grand tour of all things Bakersfield sound.  That included joining me for a couple of brews at Fishlips where we were entertained, first by Paul Chesney and his band, and...

Bakersfield Sound Underground is gaining ground, and expanding its parameters to accomodate members of Bakersfield sound's extended family, including Rich Redmond, the man currently touring with Jason Aldean, as a band member and partner in a brand new music business enterprise known as New Voice Entertainment.  When I grew up on the farm in Saskatchewan, all of our tractors were slow, but these two are riding that Big Green Tractor together to the top of the country and...

You won't see it in the papers.  All of the living members of the Bakersfield sound underground movement are mum to the press when it comes to secret underground recording sessions that are going on right now in Bakersfield, under the radar, that are bringing the Bakersfield sound back to life.  There's more information, but you'll need to go underground to find it: BSU (Bakersfield Sound Underground) http://www.bakersfieldsound... PS: Name the Bakersfield sound...

There are probably more magic moments in Bakersfield private recording studios taking place every day than most people realize.  There's one such example here, as we introduce the making of the song, Oildale Limousine with a rare Brian Benson interview and a few pictures of the recording session that accompanied that came before it.  Catch the audio interview at: Bakersfield Sound Underground (BSU) http://www.bakersfieldsound...
