Something special is going to happen this Christmas in Bakersfield---something that will benefit the homeless.  God willing, it will involve multiple artist and bands, representing multiple generations.  So far, I believe my daughter, pictured here, at age 4, is the youngest signed up.  Check out the details here: Bakersfield Sound of Christmas

What do you get when you bring in the bass player from Fatt Katt and the Vonzippers, add a bunch of grad students from National University who attend my classes each week, and put them into a Dr BLT song?  You get a group known as the Axes Five, who really know how to put the "psycho" into the psychobilly, in a song, with an accompanying skit called.... I am Schizophrenia

As usual, both the left and the right will claim that my cover of this song represents their side.  As usual, I'll let the song speak for itself.  If it sounds like I crucified this song, that was kind of the idea.  The serious distortion is on purpose.  I thought that if you're going to have an anti-war song, you might as well add a little anger to the mix.  Nothing wrong with Peter, Paul and Mary's rendition, it was great.  I was first introduced to...

The song was released quietly here last night http://www.drblt.net (hit "music' button to find song and CD) ...while you were either listening to Bakersfield and Beyond on kwmr or getting ready for an early bedtime.  It's the title track to my forthcoming CD, From Buck Owens Blvd to Merle Haggard Drive.  If you think you hear some of Merle Haggard's magical touch on the song, there's a reason for that.  I provide it here:...

When I first saw this limousine on my way to Rockwell's Trout's Nightclub and The Blackboard Stages, I had no idea who owned it, but it inspired me to write a song that would later incorporate Rockwell himself, Brian Benson (one of Bakersfield's greatest musicians), and Mark Yeary, the local musical genius who was in Merle Haggard and the Strangers for about 20 years, and the guy who recently stepped up and offered to produce the forthcoming all-star fund-raising recording of the...

To watch him at work is to watch the work of a genius.  He was with Merle Haggard and the Strangers, as Merle's keyboard player, co-writer/co-producer and all around right-hand man for Merle Haggard.  So it came as a very pleasant surprise that as I approached him at his doorstep, asking if he would help with the forthcoming multi-artist, multi-band benefit recording of the Homeless Christmas Medley, aka Homeless at Christmas/Angels, he replied, "Only if I get to produce...

Mel Tillis wrote it, Kenny Rogers did it, Cake did it, the Killers did it, so I thought I would too. Add zero quarters and hit "PLAY."

You only have a few moments to wait.  The moment has nearly arrived to unleashed a brand new version of the critically acclaimed country remake of Billie Jean.  This one features the beautiful vocals of Kim McAbee, who sings with the Buckaroos and is also an accomplished solo artist.  The vocal sounds of Jerry Rothberg can also be heard in the background of this mix.  The two of them sound great together.  The song will be released at: http://www.drblt.net (hit...

My songs are usually released at the stroke of midnight, but the demand for this one grew so great among all five of my fans, that I had to let it out of the bag early. It's from the CD, From Buck Owens Blvd to Merle Haggard Drive, found here: http://www.drblt.net (hit music link and go to the CD cover).

Did you miss Robert Price's article on Bakersfield and Beyond, the radio show that presages a Bakersfield Sound revival, the epicenter being Marin County?  Are you wondering if there are any songs that mention Labor Day?  Did you want to become a part of a recording project that will benefit the homeless in Bakersfield, are you wondering what's been happening in general.  Catch the Labor Day round-up here:   Bakersfield Sound Underground...

I've been living out the song Homer Joy wrote, and Buck Owens and Dwight Yoakam recorded, traveling and walking The Streets of Bakersfield, meeting and speaking with homeless individuals in Kern County.  These two pictured here put a real face on homelessness in Bakersfield.  They helped me promote a new way to help them by letting me take their pictures.  You can be a part of that new way to help the homeless, while eliminating the generation gap that presently exists on...

They've come a long way in a short time, and soon they will be "arriving" as a featured act on the best media phenomenon to happen to Bakersfield Sound since Cousin Herb Henson's Trading Show.  I'm talking about Bakersfield and Beyond.
