Listen to Weir's statement!
We've recorded just the audio of Ken Weir's remarks and put it in a file, which you can listen to here. We went with audio-only, because we figured the video isn't that great in this case — it's just him talking. And going with YouTube we'd have to break it into two pieces, because it's longer than the 10-minute limit. We could have attached it to a picture, but decided that an audio-only format would provide maximum flexibility, for people who want to transfer it to their portable audio player and listen to it while doing the dishes. We'd love to know how you use the file — do you like audio-only, or would you prefer video? Tell us what you want, and we'll do that next time. Maybe. Depends on what you want, really. We're not releasing it on audiotape, and I don't think anyone wants me doing interpretive dance to the statement. (Maybe someone else could adopt the whole thing as an opera. That'd be cool.) 5 comments from 4 users

Do we really want to listen to that arrogant, angry, self-aggrandizing, paranoid, self-serving, excusing, justifying drivel again? Oh, and as for his complimentary intro, it was like someone encouraging and congratulating those coming with a rail to run him out of town! Wonder if he will thank his constituents for recalling him after the election? posted by

A few things really strike me listening to the audio. The first is his insistance that it is Johnson, not him, who is dragging the town through this which is actually met by audible laughter from the crowd (audio 12:10). He also refers to Johnson and his "accomplices" (audio 13:55). The second thing that strikes me is that throughout the speech, he attacks others but lays out no positive vision and instead says he wants to meet behind closed doors to wok things out. He keeps refering to long term goal and objectives, but then says he hasn't taken position. If he actually has a vision that can be shared, certainly he would be able to articulate what that vision entails. posted by

Let me also add one contradiction in: He begins by saying he agrees with the idea of the ordinance (audio 4:10) but then 7 minutes later says that he does not want to revise the ordinance (audio 10:50). He's a pretty slippery fish. posted by
