Update on Weir petition

City Clerk Pam McCarthy has rejected the Ken Weir recall petition due to what she called "minor typographical issues." She said they're minor enough that the proponents can pick the petition up tomorrow morning, open whatever word processor they used and get a version back to her quickly. She then legally has 10 days to review it again, but said she doesn't expect to take that long.

Another update: It was rejected again. Font issues. McCarthy now says she expects them back Monday.

By font issues I mean, the state requires 8-point, but doesn't say what font. It requires a lot of text on the front, and the latest draft had the signature block bumped to the back, which isn't allowed.

"minor typographical issues" and now "font issues"

Just don't tell me that McCarthy will next bring up any "chad issues."

Is the clock ticking on the petition time-table even though the petitions are not ready yet?

The official clock starts running only when McCarthy certifies the petition form as ready to go. That starts the 120-day timetable.

However, to get it on the November ballot, the proponents would have until about the end of June. If they get a lot of signatures, they could theoretically push it into early July. But the timetable in state law gives McCarthy 30 days to verify the signatures, and then the election can be called by the council no sooner than 88 days before the election. By my quick count, that means it would have to be the July 30 council meeting.
