citybeat - > City Beat -> Marc DeLeon's surprising second
Marc DeLeon's surprising second

The mayor's race came as a surprise to me. I thought Dennis Martinez would have done better, placing second. Of the three challengers, he ran the most serious campaign.

But instead, Marc DeLeon, who put the least effort of all the candidates into the campaign, took second. Sure, he got only 12 percent to Harvey Hall's 74 percent, but still, he came in second.

Did you vote for Marc DeLeon? Why?

Marc DeLeon is an incredible human being.  I have known him for many, many years.  He is real and he genuinely cares about our community.  Real people = real interest.  I am not too surprised with the mayoral results.

If he cares so much about out community, why didn't he put more effort into his race for mayor???  **confused**

I was going for new voters. I went out talking to people 18-30.

I took a step back to let all the Old Mean Voters talk there crap.

Now you will see me in 2012.

I’m not going to stop.

I really love Bakersfield.

It will be a big Campaign and I will keep trying.

No offense, Mr. DeLeon, but I am in that 18-30 group, and still will be in 2012 and I don't think I'll be voting for you...good luck with that Myspace and Facebook campaign -- "young" people dont really vote all that much, and the ones that do take the time to vote usually vote for serious candidates.
