Anybody get a letter from Ken Weir?

I live and work in Sue Benham's ward, so I didn't get a letter from Ken Weir this weekend. Anybody get one? I'd love to see a copy.

We did, but I threw the garbage away.  Where is the recall petition?

posted by citybeat on Jun 24, 2008 at 01:41 PM

You didn't find it very convincing, I take it.

The head of the recall effort, Will Winn, can be reached at willard_winn@hotmail.com.

There must be someone out there who liked it.

I live in the NE and I didn't get one....

Yes, I have one, but I'm not going to post it on here for people to pick apart.  It's actually well written, unlike the other piece of garbage I received from the unions, oops, I mean Will Winn.  A special election, should it come, is such a WASTE of MONEY!

posted by citybeat on Jun 24, 2008 at 03:35 PM

If it's that well-written, then there'll be no picking apart.

Post it.

The person threw it in the garbage, that's sound like the opinion of a rational fair and honest person.

lol I should send willard_winn@hotmail (hotmail really, what is he like 16)

A message asking him why it is so hard to get the signatures needed and why is the recall effort, that can not get enough support in the first place, want to waste our time with a special election.

These guys are stupid, crying about russel, give it a break already.

Here's the letter for you all to see:

Dear Ward,

Willie and his crew want to recall em but they do not have any support and literally can not pay enough people to sign it. So I just wanted to let you know that I will continue to concentrate on real issues that effect all of us and and eagerly awaiting for Willie to get a life.

Sincerely

BakoSUperman

I mean Ken Weir

hotmail is an msn email account Supe. Even stick in the mud ol' conservatives use it. ;)

posted by BakersfieldSuperman on Jun 24, 2008 at 03:56 PM

Ok hotmail is not a serious email. Its hotmail, some people grow up and use adult email. Look I know users who use hotmail dont want to hear it, but they can go back to myspace and complain about it.

posted by NancyII on Jun 24, 2008 at 03:59 PM

Just what constitutes a serious email address?  I still use an AOL address and have a Yahoo for backup.  Are those serious enough?  I know a lot of people who use hotmail, it's just another free place.  No biggie.  Sorry Super, can't back ya on this one.

posted by randomfactor on Jun 24, 2008 at 04:04 PM

I use several hotmail accounts, especially for "throwaway" transactions.  I also do not have a fictional character as my avatar, but I sure did like Superman comics when I was an adolescent...

Yes, I believe that is the jest of his letter Superman.  Maybe he should hire you to write his letters :)  Here is the letter Winn wrote in response (okay, not really, but he should)...

Dear Voters,

I know you really don't care anymore that "Ken Weir's detractors are trying to deceive you" (yes, I mean me), but I want to cost this city lots of money.  Look the unions are paying me tons to waste your time and mine, so I figured, I would continue to lie and do whatever I feel like.  Hey, I'm gonna tell people in Westpark that Weir voted to run a freeway through their property, even though he didn't.  I'll tell people he did illegal things, even though he didn't.  I'll even go on the news and tell everyone it's not about Ken Weir, it's really about slowing development, but I is gonna try to recall hims anyway.  Hey, everyone believes what I say anyway because I'm "honest".  Don't let the council focus on the budget, it's not important anyway...ask Vallejo!!!

Sincerely,

Big Willie Winn

The following is the letter Ken Weir mailed to many constituents in Ward 3. It is sad that Mr. Weir again employs name calling and smear tactics against unions and people who look to government to properly steward public interests against private property concerns. He still doesn't understand who the people are who oppose his term, and why they find his election to city government so injurious.

June 18, 2008

Dear Friends,

As many of you may already know, there is currently a campaign to recall me being conducted by the
same anti-property rights activists and over-reaching union groups that opposed me during my
campaign for City Council in 2006. It is not the first time I have been attacked because of my
commitment to accountability and balanced budgets, nor will it be the last.

The issues involved here are (1) stewardship of taxpayer funds and (2) protection of property rights. As a
strong fiscal watchdog, I am unfailing in my support of sound fiscal policies. My position on private
property rights is consistent with the core values of our nation, our community and a majority of voters. I
believe the right to protect, use and enjoy property is a fundamental right and I have an obligation to
protect that right
both personally and as an elected representative.

You elected me (by a large margin) in November 2006 to a four-year term in office. I promised
accountability, integrity and a steadfast commitment to better our community. By electing me, you
demonstrated that I share your vision of clean and safe neighborhoods, protection of property rights and
balanced budgets.

While unions have value to employees for fair bargaining purposes, recently some government unions
have begun to use their power over taxpayer funds in a harmful way. The unions that opposed me in my
2006 campaign, and now, are the same unions that are bankrupting cities and counties in other parts of
California
. So today I am asking you to say NO to the recall - a well-planned conspiracy against your
elected representative who is fighting for taxpayers, safe neighborhoods and schools, balanced budgets,
and property rights. You can help by endorsing me, talking to friends and neighbors, donating, and by
NOT SIGNING the recall petition. I look forward to your support in helping me stand up to radical
activists and over-reaching government unions.

Thank you for your friendship and support in the past. I look forward to winning this battle, and future
battles, against the more extreme elements in our community - but I need your help. If you require
additional information about this issue, please contact me and I will be happy to answer any questions you
may have.

Sincerely,

Ken Weir
Bakersfield City Council
Ward 3

pup

you remind me of someone that gets stuck on the inside lane of the Garces traffic circle - you keep going around and around but you do not know that you should get off the circle to get where you want to go.

Pup...enough with your animal control issues.  The topic is the recall, not animal control.  Go somewhere else because this isn't the right article for you.  It's highly annoying!

posted by iTsMyTuRn on Jun 24, 2008 at 09:39 PM

AdamPayne...I don't think the people who are running the recall really understand why they oppose him.  If you listen to Will Winn, it varies from day to day.  One of the people in the paper who signed the recall thought they were helping Mike Maggard by signing it.  Come on, that has nothing to do with this recall, yet you see Mr. Winn in the picture having him sign the petition.  What is that?

It's time to put on your muzzle Pup!

pup

I am fine  - thanks for asking.  I want  to thank you for elevating me to a razzle dazzle politico.  It doesn't take much to dazzle you apparently - I think my message has been straight forward and to the point.  Get the dogs licensed, get them vaccinated, get them spayed and neutered, get them tagged and keep them out of the shelter.  Take a portion of the funds collected from the licensing and help support a low cost spay neuter program.

What part has you dazzled?  You should be dazzled because the answer is that simple.   This plan has the potential to pay for itself and the spay neuter program associated with it.

Where does the politics come into it?  Again pup you have a way of taking everything to an extreme.  There has been nothing underhanded here. Everything has been above board and legitimate

So Pup - relax and stop obsessing - this will come to a legitimate vote and we will go forward from the vote.  What ever the vote might be - we must move forward.  It is time to reduce the kill rate in Kern County shelters

ITsMyTuRn, although I doubt at this point there will be enough signatures to qualify for a recall, let there be no misunderstanding why so many people are upset with Mr. Weir's current term. He has shown utter contempt for those who oppose his viewpoints on property and governance. His letter is not a gesture to have have frank and open discussions on issues of importance within Ward 3, which he was elected to represent, but simply another document demonstrating his disdain of people who have nothing to do with the recall or with the issues that have antagonized many of his constituents. It was terrible form not to disclose his major clients which presented so many conflicts of interest at the outset of his term. It has also been shameful to see his heavy-handed and clumsy attempts to remove a personal obstacle from the Planning Commission. Most of us are sick to death of the continual politicization of bureaucratic jobs where the public good is sacrificed to reward special interest and ideology.

Mr. Weir represents to many of us the boss that never listens to his shareholders and employees. Instead of creating an environment of trust and cooperation in the work place, the atmosphere becomes terminally polluted with meaningless slogans and policies in pursuit of a private agenda.  A handful of individuals are rewarded at the expense of the public interest while trust and actual accomplishment are sacrificed again.

If Mr. Weir had written a letter trying to reconcile differences while extending an invitation to meet with the people of his district to gain a better idea of competing viewpoints on critical issues it could have gone a long way to nullify much of the anger and resentment many in his Ward hold. But his letter was just another throw down and divisive repudiation of people who believe their voices should also matter.

Pup...I am not Mrs. Weir.  I think your problems might be best addressed at the psychologist's office, not at the animal control meetings.  YOU need help first, then worry about the animals second!  I am done addressing YOU and YOUR issues.  Please do the same for me!

I do agree with you AdamPayne that the letter could have addressed more of the needs of the third ward.  That would have helped out, but I also think that Weir does listen to the voices of his ward.  I know that I had a couple of issues in my neighborhood, such as a giant pothole, that I called Weir about and it was taken care of.  Hey, at least he returned my call and tried to help me out.  It's more than I can say for others.

It may just be me but,,,, sometimes it seems some of you are pushing for the same thing and yet you argue over it,,,,, Am I missing something here?? ;=)))

Pup

I am speaking solely as a private citizen here.

Pup - your paranoia is raging! There is only one person being fooled here and that is you fooling yourself that there is not a way to change the course at the shelters except MSN.

Pup you lose your bet - I did not write anything to anyone concerning property rights.  So you are a definite loser on that issue.

Take a breath Pup -  you are all worked up and you think people are picking on you and that is simply not the case.

Again Pup, no razzle dazzle here - get the dogs licensed, vaccinated, spayed/neutered, tagged and take a portion of the money collected from licenses and support the low cost spay neuter programs.   Keep the animals from reproducing and keep them out of the shelters that is all I have suggested.  NO RAZZLE DAZZLE - just a straight forward thought process that seems to razzle dazzle only you PUP.

Take care of yourself - you seem a bit frazzled!

Pup

I am not trying to "shove anything down your throat".  I am suggesting that we utilize and enforce a law that is already in place and has not been enforced.  The law applies fairly to anyone owning a dog - license it!  No exceptions for sevice dogs or specialty breeds or agility dogs.   Pay the higher licensing fee or get your dog spayed or neutered and save on the licensing fees.

ACOs  charged with licensing enforcement will be carrying information about HOPE and other low cost spay neuter options.  As I hope you know - HOPE will spay and neuter cats as well.  SPCA holds cat only clinics 3 or 4 times a year and Kern Humane offers low cost vouchers for spay / neuter for cats also.  SPCA also has a feral cat spay neuter program.   So Pup my agenda is to get those cats and dogs spayed or neutered as the case may be.  Get those animals licensed, vaccinated, tagged and spayed or neutered.  The greater agenda is to get the kill rate down at the shelters.

Do you now think that just maybe we are on the same page?

The City is going to do a 90 day trial so let's see what happens.

Laurie
